Also, Where in the system would I be able to install an Oil pressure gauge? Ive never felt i needed one but i guess I could install one.

Some use the ports on the oil filter housing. I used the port above the ECM on my 05. Not sure if either of those are accessible on a 6.7 thou.

Well I can get the port for the Oil Filter housing pretty easy and dont event have to take the Air filter out being that I am running the 2nd gen turbo swap on the truck even though i wish I would have just done the drop in Fleece Cheetah turbo lol.

"Take a look at the DBL7349 from Donaldson. It has the same media as the EaO-80, but it's a bit cheaper. I get dealer pricing on Amsoil stuff and use the Donladson."

Price is not much different, so I go with black over the "BLUE".

T6 15w-40 is advertised as a synthetic blend, so IMO that doesn't qualify as a synthetic oil. I also can't find published specs on HTHS or Noack Volatility, which makes me suspect.

The Amsoil DME I run is also quite a bit thicker at 100°C than T6 15w-40 (15.6 vs 14.7), which I consider a good thing for heavy use.

When Amsoil DME came out I switched to it from AME that had a 100°C viscosity of 15.0. That .6 increase gained a little pressure and lost a little temperature when towing hard, those are both good things. That was with aftermarket pressure and temperature gauges on my 05.

Modern engines run the oil hot, don't trust the BS oil temp gauge on the dash, and you want thick oil to be able to handle that.

Sure T6 may provide great results, but I don't have to try it to know I don't want to run it...just like I don't have to buy a DMAX or Powerjoke to know I don't want to try one.

One of the reasons I like to run a full synthetic 15w-40 is they generally have a lower Noack %loss, around 1/2, of a 5w-40 full synthetic... which goes back to how hot oil can run on modern engines.

All in all we're pretty lucky with these motors. Very few oil related issues, and pretty good OEM OCI's... go look at a 6.7 Powerstroke's OCI if you want to see how bad it can be.

You seem to have T6 confused with T5, T6 is a full synthetic. You can buy it either 5/40 or 15/40. I prefer 15/40.

It seems some go to great lengths on this oil thing. I know a lot of you have your oil analyzed , I am guessing its to predict impending doom , or to extend the oil life. Not interested in extending the oil life, I don't put a lot of miles on my truck . Its going on 6 years, and 49K. As said its going to be once a year from now on .

T6 may provide great results, but I don't have to try it to know I don't want to run it. I am pretty sure I understand the comment, I can say the same about Amsoil. No reason to try it, great results from other brands.

I will try out that Donaldson filter, I like the color .

I'm just reading what Shell publishes about their oil. It clearly states blend, and enhanced with full synthetic base oils. To me, that's a blend??

Shell ROTELLA T6 "Full" Synthetic Blend, to me that means full Synthetic ???. Are we playing with words here.:)

Regardless , I just can't drink the Koolaid on this Amsoil :p

I don't think blend is word play, it has a very specific meaning. That phrase means it's blended with a full synthetic, so it's not a full synthetic oil.

Okay its a blend ,and that means what, I won't get the same results ,protection etc, that you supposedly get from Amsoil ??

I am as far from an oil expert as they get ,but what paying double for an oil change, having to send for it, doing oil analysis , and dumping it out a year later is going to get me WHAT !!! I have seen this discussion before, but is it really accomplishing anything as far as any added benefits, other then what I think , and that is it makes YOU sleep better at night. :)

It likely won't get you anything, especially out of warranty period. 6 month oil changes are silly on this motor, but it's in the warranty book. The benefit to Amsoil is that its rated for 1 year, where the T6 is only rated for manufacturer specs... likely neither one will be an issue. But running the Amsoil to 12 months vs 6 months on T6 does make the Amsoil cheaper.

Most oils are dumped before they are worn out anyhow.

Yes there are added benefits to full synthetic, but that synthetic blend will still get some benefits. The biggest benefits are under extreme heat and extreme cold. I was amazed at how slowly Delo 400 would build oil pressure in winter, even above 10°F... it's one of the reasons I prefer a full synthetic. What that means for the life of a motor for me?? likely not much, but yeah I prefer it.

So i didnt mean for this to turn into an OIL war and which is better. Just wanted to ask what the warning was set to for our trucks.

When i was using t5 or t6 and the walmart cummins filter i still went 15k miles on my oil changes and never had any oil tested. I decided to go with Amsoil as they clearly list that it has 6x the wear protection, can go a year without changing the oil so long as thats within 25k miles or 500 engine hours which ever comes first. I will still likely not get my oil tested even running this oil as I dont see the point. Maybe someone can convince me of the reason to get a test done.

Not a war, 2014 and I enjoy a good discussion. I'm nearly certain he's laughing and smiling as much as I am.

I don't see a need to test with how you intend to use it, or the mods your truck has.

Y'all been busy whilst I've been driving. Almost made to TV news when idiot passed me, cur me off, and slammed on brakes. MY RIG, 33.4KLBS WIIL STOP! Hellofa way ito test your brakes.

It’s evident you’ve drank the Amsoil Koolaid :) My question is did you ever give another brand of oil a chance ? My thinking is any good synthetic oil is going to perform the same. IMO , let’s say T6 Rotella would of done equally as well .

I'm actually running Mobil 1 FULL synthetic 5W40. :p

Not sure I'm going to make that my permanent oil or not. Had 3 gallons left over from selling my wife's 03 Ram 2500 Cummins.

Cheers, Ron

I've run t5, t6, Current amsoil, delo, Mobil 1. So far I just think that the amsoil seems to be running better truck seems to be running smoother as well.

I have noticed that with this oil, running 12qts I'm just above the safe mark while with the others using 12qts I was way outside the safe range. I have no leaks anywhere and no oil in the downpipe or anything so I think the amsoil is less likely to be "creating" more oil like some other brands can?

I do appreciate where this thread has gone though. Alot of good information and discussion on oils and choices.

Well I guess thats as good a reason as any I have heard :D But sorry I just don't get that running smoother thing, I guess I don't have any feelings :p I think some get that fuzzy feeling because they just spent that much on oil ,so they should expect something .

To be honest I run mostly T4, almost exclusively in my old 99 Superduty , and 1 year oil changes, after 5 years. This 2014 Ram same oil every six months . I will probably go T6 once a year, now that I have quit the 6 month deal on this 2014 Ram . I have ran a couple different brands a couple times, but Rotella is good enough for me .

I'm still undecided lol. Hell I may just go back to the t5 and use the Donaldson filter to save some money there.

We will see when I change the oil in a number of months or may next year lol.

With a cold or hot motor it’s very noticeable between Delo and Amsoil, but that’s all I’ve run. Amsoil sounds better cold, and builds oil pressure faster. Amsoil also holds pressure better under high temps.
