Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Oil drain plugs....

Well... I changed my oil again, for what seems like the umpteenth time, and noticed my factory plug is getting worn... checkin' Genos site http://www.genosgarage.com/products.asp?dept=24,

I see a varitable plethora of options... what are you guys using, and why ?

I used the super plug from Genos for a while but then the last time I changed my oil the head stripped on it. Had to use one of those bolt outs to get it off and it wasnt over torqued either. I couldnt believe it did that. Went back to the stocker for that oil change. Have since ordered the one/finger touch one from Genos by fumoto or something like that and installed it my last oil change. Wont have to take it out again. Will see how it works next oil change. Appears to be made fairly well but so did the super plug. Chose the super plug orignally because of its design, seemed super heavy duty. The one touch I figured will not have to take it out again and shouldnt be a problem. Will see if it the ball valve in it holds up.

I just got one from Napa, was like $6. I drilled out the center about 1/4" deep and put a magnet with a bit of JB Weld to hold it in place.

29 changes with the Plug it Right, Heavy duty plug. Mine came with a magnet cap cover that I don't see advertised anymore. But, it's a stout plug with 9/16" nut and high quality threads.

I have the one touch drain installed and don't have to remove the plug anymore. One of my best free mods yet to the truck.

I've had the easy-drain from Genos since my 99 was new. No problems in 108000 miles with oil changes every 5000. If you get one, make sure to warm er' up first or it won't drain right! Mike

I got this about 75k ago. Thanks about 25 oil changes and it's still there. I use a six sided socket to break it loose and torque to 40# - looks like new. MHO

I use the Fumoto drain valve, faster, easier, cleaner. Similar to the one below.

Have the one touch drain plug in mine for 6 yrs now... Every oil change no problem! Works perfect never leaked. .

No more need for wrenches to change oil... . Heck, you never get oil on your fingers AT ALL when you have this... just rotate the lever, and oil flows... . just that simple.

I have the finger touch drain valve from Geno's and so far so good. Hangs a little low (sits about 1" lower than the oil pan) but I don't do any off roading, so it's ok.

I have used the Fumoto drain plugs for over 15 years and have 20 to 25 in service. I have never replaced any of them due to failure. In fact I still have the first one in service I installed , that unit has over a million miles on it. Have to love them, install it once, never have to fight a drain plug again.

His is from Geno's, mine I got on eBay... just search for Fumoto...



They work great... better than farting around with a stuck drain valve.
