ok i did my feed lines etc. . im working on my drains originally i was gonna drain both into one the stock single drain... but i have heard from a few reputable source that is a russian rolet etc as it may work but if it doesn't, you'll back up oil and waste a tubo seal etc... . so my blocks are early 12v blocks so i only have one oil drain stock. . so i either drill and tap the block or do a oil pan drain. . the engine is in the truck so even doing a oil pan deal isgonna be interesting to say the least. I have to see if i can snake it out. . its a '89 4x4 w350... if i pull both motor mounts and lift it up till i hit the fire wall maybe i can have enough room to pull the pan?... what do you guys recommend?. . hehe. . thanks

Hey therabbittree I got your PM but thought I would just post it here. You can weld a pipe to drain the oil out of the second turbo with the pan on the truck, just measure 5 3/4 from the back of the motor and 1 1/2 from the top of the pan. I used a hole saw to drill the hole but make sure the piece doesn't fall into the pan or you will have to fish it out like I did. Just weld a bit at a time then cool it with a water soaked rag. It is hard to do the very top but if you are handy with a mig it can be done.

You want it as close to the top as practical, to be above oil level at all times. Aslo it should be at an angle, and the drain pipe must not go up as it goes to the pan--oil drains down and air goes back up, Pius told me.

Good coments Joe the drain tube I used I got from Piers and I angled it downward in the pan and the end of the tube was cut at a 45 so oil off the crank would not hit the flow of oil as it exits the tube.

joe what did you mean when you said the drain pipe shouldn't go up when it comes to the pan? do you mean to have the drain go 90 degrees from the pan or something similar?... . as obivously it has to go up to reach the turbo etc... and b pine did you hole saw it with out the center bit?. . and on the truck you drilled ?. . you didn't try to unbolt the pan our any thing huh?. . ,,,mummn what size tubing and hole saw did you use?... did fill the crank case with co2 or just left it drained and open?. . i was a little concerned about welding to the pan with oil vapor in closed area etc... . also do either of you know the oil level in the pan with the engine running etc?... i have a extra pan from my other engine i was gonna fill up with water to the right amount and see where it sits. . hopefully its above the oil level etc... . although tthe older 1. 6L turbo diesel vw engines had the drain in the pan and i think it was under the oil especailly under excel. . etc as the enfgines are tilled back . .

any how thanks fro the advice and i hope th heare some more soon hehe. .

thanks

What Joe meant was the part of the drain tube that is in the pan should be pointing down. I did mine on the truck after draining the oil and there was no problem with fire, I did drill the hole first with oil in it so if any chips went inside the would drain out with the old oil. Remember to coat the drill bit with allot of grease to catch the chips. I used a hole saw with the center bit but the piece fell out and went in the pan and I had to fish it out. If you drill it like I said you will be slightly above the oil level with the truck off and with it running it should be even lower. This is where everyone has been drilling the hole for years with no problem.
