I notice there are 2 plugs in the top of the oil filter boss. Are they both pre, or post filter, or one each? If the latter which is pre-filter? TIA

took a peak at the service manual and the diagram there looks like they are POST filter???

Nick's right, I'm wrong. I checked the diagram when I got home. Both plugs are POST filter.

That would make it a good place to check oil pressure, but not the most ideal for oil temp unless the oil circulates through there before the oil cooler.

the oil has passed through the cooler before it hits the filter pad... i still think that would be a good location for the oil temp... i don't really need to see what it is in the sump, but what the temp is before hitting the bearings. . with the engine working, it'll be hotter than the water temp, and with it not working so hard, about even with water temp.

when i decide on what oil temp & new oil press. gauge i am getting, i will put the temp in the top of the pad and figure out the fittings to put the press. where the factory switch is...

Thanks for the replies everyone. I was looking for an oil sampling port that I could install a needle valve into to pull an oil sample.

What page in the service manual (Cummins or MOPAR) is this diagram?

Thanks!

And I reckon I'll be doing exactly the same thing as soon as you figure out the fittings. ;)
