Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Oil in Coolant

I was driving home from work this morning when my heater quit working so I pulled over to check things out. Oil and coolant were spewing out of the coolant overflow. My oil level had dropped and my coolant temp had started to rise. Has anyone have this happen to them before? I'm guessing that it might be the oil cooler. What should I do to find out the problem?

I suspect your oil cooler too. Only way I know to determine for sure is repair the oil cooler first - since it's easy compared to head gasket - and see if that fixes it. Somebody else might know of a better way.

For some strange reason I don't have Issue 49 or 50. I called and they are going to send them again. So I guess I'll have to figure it out myself. Does anyone know hoe to test to see if my oil cooler was the culprit once I have it out. Also is there any difference in oil coolers from one 5. 9 application to another?

Water in oil

You can run the truck with the radiator cap off to see if your getting combustion in the cooling system, this would indicate a head gasket problem. By your sig your headgasket is probably your problem. Thanks Steve B.

You can plug one end and put air to the other and put it in water and look for bubbles. The oil cooler takes 60 to 80 psi of oil presure so don't be afraid of putting some air to it.

My truck JUST did such a thing tonight.

Not sure yet if it's the head gasket or a blown oil cooler connection/line.

How do you test the oil cooler? I took mine out today, hoping its not a head gasket.

The oil inlet & outlet is just an open port with no way to hook a hose or fitting to acheive 50 lb. pressure
