Hi all. I have a odd situation with my 99. I've had it for a year now, and every time I get the oil changed, it comes back with the oil level 1 to 1. 25 inchs above the safe mark. I go back to the dealer and they correct it, but they are 0 for 3 on doing a quality job, in my opinion. My o/m says oil cap. 10qts,filter 1 qt. I figure its about 1 qt. overfull. I know my 1st gen. took 12 qts. According to o/m my 99 is 11 qts. Is the dealer that screwed up? What are some of the potential problems with an extra qt in the oilpan? I'm thinking possable seal leaks but any info would be appreciated. BTW, I'm going back to the dealer I bought it from from now on. Thanks, Jim in N. D.

I always get my Delo 400 15/40 in gallon jugs, and pour in the whole shebang - the oil shows a bit over the full mark, but no big deal. Some will now chime in and tell all the terrible things that can happen with over-filling - and all I can say is ~ :p :p :p

Gary, first it was the toilet paper debacle, and now this! My god, dogs will start living with cats now!

12 quarts works for me too, it'll eventually work its way onto the ground thru my "puke hose". The bottle is bye bye.

check this service bulltin. 09-06-98. incorrect dip stick . cummins no. stamped on. correct p/n 3935648, incorrect p/n 3044594. hope this helps.

They tell me it takes forever for the oil to drain back down after shutting the engine off. Maybe some are adding too soon and that's why you end up alittle over. When my DOC changes oil and filter it's usually a smidge overfull when I chack it. Figure I ain't a gettin that much windage outta it. Too much oil seem like a better problem to have than too little. At the Evandale, IA flying J now, heading back to Bristol, IN for a 5er going someplace in OR. Maybe wait till Monday and have Dave's Diesel find out why my A/C quit working. Not a good time of year to not have A/C.

That would be me. :p :p

If you are too much overfull your crank will whip the oil into a froth and you get poor lubrication, high oil temps, and it robs horespower. I don't know what too much is, but I doubt 1 1/2 qts over will cause a problem.

Well it's tomorrow and I haven't blown up yet;) . Guess I'm being too fussy. I still think a dealer should know better. Also noticed the lube portion of the "oil change and lube" was overlooked. The dipstick is the correct p/n. Thanks for the help.
