Hey Daniel, the 2 times I have cleaned my K&N, I always have a little oil film on the turbine, just clean it up, and he shouldn't have a problem. If he doesn't have a K&N, you got me there, never seen it before on a stock application.
Everyone's correct about the K&N. Even a K&N right out of the box with no additional oiling will coat the turbo only after a few hundred miles of driving. Some frown on this, others disregard it completely. I've yet to hear of a K&N doing serious damage to a motor though. Rock on!
I'v got the oil too, just a little film around the inner edge of the housing, my blades and filter to turbo hose are clean & dry. I have yet to pull the turbo to intercooler boot. Fear keeps me away from that.
