try Amazon for the Spectra pan, I replaced mine 2 months ago for $120.

I finally did mine. I went with the Spectra also after some POR15. Overall it wasnt as terrible as I thought it would be other than really a dirty job. I like Trampolineman, had to basically shower with orange hand cleaner afterwords. I have never been as dirty / oil covered. I did the entire job alone and was pretty proud I could pull it off. Just did the pan on my friend's 04 wasn't as bad a job as I thought it was going to be. I was surprised to find slots in the engine mounts on the frame loosen the bolts slide them back and lift. Had plenty of room, didn't have to remove the oil pick up tube. Had it done in under 5 hours. We painted the pan, rustolem I've had good success using their paints on the marine engines I've had to replace pans on.

I was cutting wood in a neighbor's orchard today, then went to town to run a few errands while it rained. I noticed little rainbow spots on the pavement where I had entered a parking lot, but then noticed in the mirror, that I was leaving another trail back out when I turned the other direction. I stopped at an auto parts store in the next block and looked under. I could see the oil dripping off the bottom, but was looking all over the rest of the engine, and finally realized it was leaking form the pan itself.

Wasn't quite to the "add" mark, so I bought some oil, topped it up and cut my trip short and headed for home. I'm sort of dreading having to get into this project, and it especially sucks because there's a ton of free cherry wood just a half mile down the road.

Just this year I've bought a 2nd Prius, got a 2nd motorcycle, and barn to put more stuff in. I joked about just buying another truck, but that didn't go over well. :-laf

I've looked around and there are quite a few listings on eBay for pans at about $70. Anybody tried one of those yet?

Why not go for a Cummins OEM part? I mean, you should only have to do this job once...why take a chance?

Is the OEM pan expensive?

From the local Dodge dealer it's $650ish. There was also a $55 gasket, and 32 screws at almost $4 each. I told the parts guy I didn't need a gold-plated pan or their security screws. :-laf Service dept said between 1000 and 1200 for labor.

Another shop that works on light and medium duty trucks said I was looking at about $1500 and it would be a quality aftermarket brand.

I went ahead and ordered one from eBay for about $75 shipped, and it includes a new gasket. I might coat it with some bedliner material before I install it. (that's assuming it's decent quality and I can break the engine mounts loose) I'll keep you all informed.

The problem with alot of cheap parts is the lack of prep prior to whatever coating they use. So top coating does little good as there is not proper adhesion on the surface coat. It would be well worth the time and effort to have the exterior bead blasted to get a good profile followed by a quality paint.

Genos garage has choices. The OE Cummins, the fabbed out of stainless sheet Sno Depot, and I believe a Spectra or Dorman pan. I used the Cummins replacement when I did mine.

JR hit the nail on the head with the paint. The spectra pan's paint is junk, but on the bright side it comes off easily so one could strip it with a inexpensive chemical stripper and re coat it with something more durable.

The spectra pan on my truck is going on three years old and looks worse than the OEM pan did when is developed a pinhole leak after nine years. I'll repair the oem pan and put it back on before the spectra rots off. If the stainless steel pans were available in 2014 I would have went that route and would not have to deal with this again. #@$%!

It would seem to me that a coat of bedliner should also have the additional benefit of making the truck quieter, I'd like to hear your opinion about that once you make the change.

I'm just spraying the pan, not the whole underside.

A few years ago during a rear window replacement, I had the interior apart and stuck some layers of leftover Grace Ice & Water Shield to the back and ceiling of the cab. That seemed to help quite a bit. Initially, I had covered the vents behind the seat, which made it REALLY quiet-- Until the heat or A/C was turned on. Those hidden vents keep tiny openings from whistling and also keep the fan from sounding like it's really working hard.

DO NOT put a engine oil pan in a blast cabinet. The media will get in the creases of the pan stamping, and you will loose the engine. I've seen it happen. Get some rolock scotch brite pads on a drill. Clean clean clean.
