I noticed that the drain plug on my 2002 is a different design from the 2001. The torque spec on the 01 plug was 44 ft lbs. Does anyone have a shop manual for the 2002. Since the plug is different I suspect the torque spec might be as well. I also noticed that a 10mm pipe plug socket ( Snap On Tools) fits the recess in the plug like a good fitting glove as compared to the 3/8" extension head with the ball. The pipe plug socket is a solid piece.

I would appreciate any responses.

Don't use a torque wrench!

I advise against using a torque wrench on it. I did that once, and it was all I could do to bust it loose on the next oil change. I thought I was going to break it or tear the pan metal. Now I just tighten it by feel, and it still seems like it tightens up over time. I'm always afraid I'll break it getting it loose.

Yea, mine does the same thing,I swear a little monkey crawls under my truck when I'm sleepin' and tightens the snot out of it. I think I'm going to put in Geno's EZ Change Drain Plug, then I'll never have to remove it!

The torque specs for the 2002 drain plug is 35 ft lbs. It's stamped right on my plug. I've been torque'in it to this since the 1st oil change. Loosens just a easy.

Hope this helps,

Doug

Thanks for the replies; especially to you Doug. I stopped at the dealers this evening and bought a spare plug - didn't notice that the torque specs were imprinted on the top.
