I have an 06 5. 9L with 55K on it. i had it up last night and noticed the oil pan gasket seems to be weaping oil from both sides and in the front. not to the point where it is dripping, but sides and front of pan are moist with oil. this is crazy that this is bad at this age and mileage. i don't want to have it covered under warranty all dealers by me suck and i don't want the opening up anything on my engine. Just when i was realizing that the only thing good in the truck was the engine, she starts leaking... this is after spending $5K on the front end to make it the way it should be.

amyone else run into this? have you tried tightening down the pan bolts?

Yep, same here on my '06. I've tightened all the pan bolts a couple times of the past couple years, although the wetness is still there.

Do you think it's possible that it's coming from the front timing cover crankshaft seal and running back? That's a more common place for things to leak it seems...

The tq for the pan bolts is 18 ft/lbs. It wouldn't hurt to check them. I just posted in the 12 valve section replacing my pan gasket, but it is a 2WD 2nd gen. I can relate to you not wanting to go to a dealer. I did find a good one in Tucson a few years ago though.

thanks for info guys,

ENafzing, i thought the same thing, most of wetness is in front, but then there are dry spots along sides, then more wet spots in middle and close to rear. so there is a "gap" in the oil seepage. this is what leads me to think oil pan gasket. either way it's not bad enough to warrent the amount of work required to fix correctly. just really ticks me off for age, mileage, ect. i will hit the bolts with the torque wrench and cross my fingers. thanks for the spec Games!

Quite likely its the front crank seal and the oil is blowing back onto the pan rail. That tends to leave gaps and inconsistencies where it shows.

I have been dealing with the seep/leaks for years. For awhile I could remove a few bolts at a time, and clean them and the holes thoroughly with brake cleaner and apply black RTV to the bolt threads. Eventually the gasket dried out and/or shrunk enough that my stop gap method ceased working. After finding out that replacing it was so much easier than my imagination projected it would be, I'm sorry I didn't do it long ago.
