Hello 2nd Genners. I'm a 1st genner myself but I've got a question about a 24 valve in the family. My grandmother has a 01 2500 auto she says that the oil pressure gauge hasn't been reading and the check gauges lite stays on. I guess she's been driving it like that for bout a week but she says it still seems to run fine. I freaked out when she told that she'd been driving it like that. The trucks only got about 35k on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok what I would do is check and clean the connection to the sender, then check for broken wires. If you need to buy a new sender I am afraid from what I understand the new sendors meerly on show a PSI when you have any pressure(not really any usable pressure) and zero when none. Basically a feel good gauge no better than a red oil light. Please don' hake this wrong cause Grandma's are wonderful and perhaps that is what she needs maybe she will tell you when it is zero, but then again maybe not.

thanks for the help. i've just been doing a search and am finding that it seems to be a common problem and nothing to really worry about immediately. evidently she aint that worried about since shes driving it all over the place. i thank it scared me more than her cause it was my granddad's truck.

From what I understand, if you replace the sender you will be ok, although it is expensive from the dealer, but not too bad if you buy it from Cummins. If you have them do the flash for low oil pressure, then the gauge becomes nothing more than an idiot light - will read 40 psi constantly.

Oil sending gauge.

I might be dumber than a stump, but mine hasn't work right in about a year, It will dong dong, go to nothing , back to 60 to 80. Untill it has warmed up. Then it will keep good oil pressure. "I thinks", Well! I have read a lot about them, so I have a new one in the door panel. I have the 53 block. So I will change it when the block cracks. Miine is a 99. I beleive it will last a million miles.
