Not that it will help you this time, but you might consider a Fumoto drain plug from Geno's FUMOTO F104 OIL DRAIN VALVE - 18MM ('89-'93)-Dodge Cummins Diesel Truck Accessories – Geno’s Garage . They work great and you can pull just enough out for a sample.
The sample tube included with the Amsoil sampler is just the right diameter to get down the oil fill tube. With the engine warm, you want to sample the crankcase oil about 3 inches deeper than the dipstick. Another way is to catch a sample from the oil draining but about halfway through. Dont pull a sample from the bottom, it may not be representative.
why do an oil sample on a new truck..... I think a lot of people get carried away with all this... ... get in and drive... it will last a long time... . And Im not making fun of the person who started this post... . just seems like people treat these trucks like there are nitro funny cars, and need to know what the motor is doing every sec of its life..... or maybe I just need to be taught something??
I have a 08 6. 7, I'm trying to pull an oil sample but the sample tube will not fit through the bottom of dip stick tube. Is there a smaller opening at the bottom or what? I don't want to have to pull a sample at drain plug unless no other option.
The Fumoto works super, but Blackstone suggests taking a sample midstream which would be 5. 5 qts. They also suggest driving the vehicle 20 minutes. Not that it will help you this time, but you might consider a Fumoto drain plug from Geno's FUMOTO F104 OIL DRAIN VALVE - 18MM ('89-'93)-Dodge Cummins Diesel Truck Accessories – Geno’s Garage .
