I wonder if disabling the Active Ram Air will cause a CEL/MIL. When it gets that hot it shifts air intake to the front grill from the passenger side fender. Putting an obstruction there defeats the active ram intake purpose. Maybe a snorkel is in order. :-laf

I frequently see 240 oil temps on mine..Good to know its a bogus number..LOL It usually is 20 degree's higher then coolant temps. Towing, mine runs in the 210-220 coolant zone unlike my previous 2 RAMS.

When my oil pan was off two winters ago I really contemplated modifying the pan to hold a FAST cooler or two and adding a oil temp sender.... but based on what I have heard about the efficiency of the oil cooler I didn't bother. 50° above coolant would put the oil at 275° if you are running hard and at the max allowable temp for the 190° thermostat. 275° oil is hot but nothing to worry about with synthetic. I routinely run 215-216° coolant when towing heavy up a grade on a hot day and my UOA has never shown any oil breakdown from temperature. I run Amsoil AME.

I do see pressure drop on my oil from 55-60 to 40-45 when pulling a hard grade so the oil does heat up but it cools off very fast. I monitor pressure on the cam journal above the ECM so I suspect I see a bit more of a pressure drop than one would see by monitoring pressure at the oil filter housing.

Hello all: I am new here, Just traded my 04.5 I bought new( 118k mi) for a 6.7 DRW. WoW... was life simple back then? Thanks for all the info. (more than I can absorb)

Does the digital oil temp readout on the evic tell accurate oil temp or not ?who cares how the number gets there as long as the number displayed is close to actual and reliable.

As long as the oil isn't burned, it will lubricate. Don't see a need to know exact oil temps. I see on the internet that Cummins puts oil temp sensors on larger engines. Pretty sure the algorithm mostly uses oil pressure & RPM. Larger engines seem to have temp sensors next to the pressure sensor. The algorithm might have an error correction if it's values deviate too far from the coolant temp. Oil temps are very hot coming off the turbo. But they are dumped into the pan and cooled (oil cooler) before returning to the engine. In just one pass through the entire oil route, the temps could vary widely. But as long as it doesn't burn, it will lubricate. Being said that I'm sure the pressure/RPM algorithm is based off of 15/40 weight oil. I've heard in some countries, where 15/40 isn't easily available, people use 20/50 weight.

Yes disconnecting the air box will trip a dtc.

I so far am impressed with the temps all around. So what happened to the "Dual" radiator? Mine is single.

A little off topic, but yes you have 2 radiators on your 2015. They run in parallel. Follow your upper radiator hose and you should see a "Y" connection on there. Then you'll see you have a smaller radiator in front of the power steering and trans cooler radiators (but behind the AC condensor). Your radiator drain is actually on your forward radiator on the passenger side just above the bumper. I believe the current cooling package was counted at 9 radiators total, however I'm not sure if that's counting the oil cooler and EGR cooler in the package.

Even on the 15's? I seem to recall the dual radiator being dropped for '15.

You're right, I did not see that thread on 2015's having only one radiator. Looks like there was question on whether it was unilaterally dropped and why, or if there was a smaller radiator under the larger main radiator.

I think on my 2013 RAM mega cab they dropped all the double radiators, tans cooler s and gave them to someone else!!!:-laf

My temps are about 10 degrees greater that coolant temp unless it is really hot outside or it is being worked a little. Then it gets to about 20 degrees about coolant temp.

Not actual gauges for oil temp and oil pressure? What a freakin joke! Did the pencil dix at Ram save $20 per pickup by eliminating those items? Is the transmission an actual reading or is it theoretical as well? If the oil pressure isn't real, how are they calculating it and how does the computer know if you truly DO lose oil pressure because something catastrophic went wrong like an oil filter blowing apart?

There is a 6 psi oil pressure switch as your only way of knowing you lost oil pressure. FWIW the minimum pressure for operation at idle is 10psi and it goes up from there.

The bean counters probably had something to do with it. But if we had real gauges most uninformed owners would be calling the dealer or FCA customer service all the time about readings they didn't expect or understand.
