We see references to oil use occasionally and some allways post that thier truck uses NO oil.
I am puzzelled; When the piston goes up, the inside of the cylinder gets covered with oil. Right? When the piston comes down, the rings scrape the oil back down, but if they scrape it all back down, wouldnt that have to mean that the top ring is scraping bare metal to bare metal?? That would not be good. If some oil is left on the cylinder wall so that that last ring is lubed, doesn't that have to result in "some" oil usage??
I have owned several vehicles since buying my first--a 1940 chev. I bought in 1950, and I have never owned one that did not use some oil.
The greatest oil use was a 1968 or 1969 M Benz. I bought in my "yuppy lawyer years". The owners manual that came with that stated that oil use would be between 2. 4 and 4. 2 quats per thousand miles, and thats about what it was. But that was one of the most expensive vehicles to maintain!!! It lived at the shop--they let me take it out now and then so something else could break!
Can some one un-confuse me
