I went from Amsoil 15W-40 HDD&M to Amsoil Series 3000 5W-30 HDD and experienced a marked reduction in wear (per my Blackstone lab analysis). In fact, the Amsoil 15W-40 HDD&M performed better than both Valvoline/Cummins Premium Blue 2000 and Red Line 15W-40 synthetic in my ISB.

As far as the 75W-90 -vs- the 75W-140 debate... I have used both. I went back to the 75W-90 (Amsoil Series 2000) the last time I changed gear oil in both differentials. Amsoilman has said he has changed the gear oil in large OTR tractors, refilling them with Series 2000 75W-90... with excellent results. I would suspect the large OTR tractors inflict more psi loading on the gear oil than our 7-8k Rams.

Also, think about this; Dodge recommends the use of a 75W-140 synthetic gear oil be used if the truck is to be used for a significant amount of heavy towing... Dodge does not offer a SYNTHETIC 75W-90 (or anything close). Hmmm. ..... just wondering if that statement is self serving.

While we are on the subject of rear end oil. What is the best way to get the new oil in? Can you just pour it in or do you have to use some kind of funnel?

I have changed my rear diff. every 30 - 50K. I ran the original Amsoil 75W90 the first time and the newer Series 2000 75W90 the last several time. I had every dump tested. The factory oil, and the original Amsoil had TAN readings the recomended changing. The last several Series 2000 75W90 test were very good. TO good to dump even at 50K miles.

I have a 96 5sp, turned up pump and pull trailers working the truck (and rear end) very hard.

At 190K miles the LSD is still very tight. All the last test had miniumal (very low) iron.

I see little reason to go to the 140Wt oil unless you pull 30K regualarly in TX heat. Even then I bet the 75W90 would not let your down.

Ditto the Amsoil Series 3000 5W30. It really tests well summer and winter. Great oil. It also tested better then the 15W40 or any other 15W40 I had ran. Great oil!

First off Congrats on the car... second. . I'm confused. My dad brought home a paper about a week ago that said that the UP has a deal with Chrysler to get vehicles basically at invoice (that's why they bought a Grand Caravan). Since when is this Ford deal in affect? Not that I will ever buy one... I was just going to pass the info to my father.

I just changed my with the stock cover and put 5 quarts back in. AFAIK the stock capacity is 10. 1 pints, so just slightly over 5 quarts. I would think the Mag Hytec would be somewhat greater than the reported 5 quarts you installed. BTW, mine is a Dana 80 4X4, so maybe that is why the difference, I know the 70's are less and apparently 2 wheel drive is less capacity too.

First off thanks.

Well I know there is a deal with GM (been a while) and the Chyrsler deal came out sometime last year (after I bought my truck). The Ford deal came out sometime last Oct or Novm because I priced one back then, I could "Afford" the car but not the insurance back then, since I turned 25 in March I can afford the insurance on it, it will be under $100 a month for the car vs $300 for the car only back in Nov!

Lemmie find the details on the Ford deal, if ya goto a Ford Dealer its call "X Plan".
Does your dad have a TCS logon name and password? If so tell him to goto the "Employee" UPRR site and log on, currently there are deals with DaimlerChrysler, Dell, Ford, GM, GE Appliance Store, Nissian/Infiniti, and Subaru.

Sticker on this car I order is close to 29K ($28,635) I am paying $25,100, not a "Huge" savings but enough to make me "look" at it, and in doing so I bought one #ad

The Ford plan : UP employees are now eligible for the Ford Motor Company vehicle pricing plan. Called the "Supplier Partner Recognition" the program offers employees of UP Railroad and its subsidiaries the ability to purchase or lease eligible vehicles at Ford Motor Company's X-Plan price. Pricing is determined by adding 4 percent to the Ford employee (A-Plan) price. The A-Plan price is noted on the dealer's copy of the invoice. This could mean significant savings on a wide variety of Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda, Volvo and Land Rover vehicles. Certain vehicles may be excluded.

DaimlerChrysler plan : The program allows employees to purchase or lease one eligible, new DaimlerChrysler vehicle at the Preferred Price. Chrysler, Plymouth, Jeep or Dodge vehicles are available in this program.

GM Plan : The General Motors Supplier (GMS) New Vehicle Purchase Program Plus for 2001 allows Union Pacific employees to enjoy discounts on eligible new and unused GM vehicles. The program, which for the first time has been extended to Saturn vehicles, is available through Sept. 30, 2001.

Thats just a quick summary of some of the things on the website. Goto Union Pacific Railroad then click the "Employees" tab, and "internal site" He'll have to log on using TCS User ID and password (if ya do it from home). Or he can look at the site from work I believe.

Does that help at all?<font size=-2>

John,

I'm not saying that the Amsoil 5w30 doesn't protect better, I have seen oil analysis that prove it does. What is hard for me to believe that a 30 on the top end protects better than a 40.

big barney

You can get a screw on fitting with a hose at auto parts stores that goes right on the quart bottles. You need to drop your spare to have room to tip the bottle. I bought my Mag Hytec cover from Geno's, the "funnel" was included.

I picked up a longer length of clear tubing to add oil to the transmission. I just pop the hood, fish the hose down to the transmission and insert it then lay the bottles on the turbo while they drain.

Thanks QRTRHRS

Will give that a try soon. I was going to order that funnel from Genos but I was told it doesn't fit the amsoil bottles.

Thanks for your help
Curt
