I have been searching the oil bypass systems and I think the Oilguard may be the best bang for the buck. I have looked at toilet paper, paper towels, Amsoil (to expensive to maintain) and Purdyne (also pricey). The replacement filters for the Dodge system are $13. 00 a piece. More expensive than toilet paper or paper towels but they do seem reasonable being that Oilguard recommends extending your drain interval to twice the interval your at now and replacing the full flow and bypass filters at that time if you are not using oil analysis. If analysis is done they recommend the bypass filter be changed when the analysis tells you to change the oil. I know some of you have the Oilguard system, your opinion please.

I have used the oil guard for over 2 years. No complaints so far. Oil tests are great. Better when driving long distances between San Diego and Santa Fe. More filtering time I guess. Its good peace of mind anyway. .

They occasionaly have 1/2 price sales on filters.

Thanks for the reply. I ordered the system today 7/18/03. Could you please give me some information you have acquired as I would rather learn from experience than reinvent the ball.

1. Average miles between oil change. (ballpark)

2. Type of oil used

3. Frequency of full flow filter changes (ie. 3500 miles,5000 miles or when oil needs changing).

4. How do you know when the bypass filters are on sale?.

5. Where did you mount the system.

6. Do you use oil analysis?.

Thanks

Dave

I mounted it on the passenger side of the front cross member- under the front bumper.

As for the return line- you can use the oil drain plug adapter they send you- or search the old posts. There are a lot of ways to plumb the return line.

I change the oilguard filter every 10,000

Full flow every 4,500

Oil every 4,500

I use Dino (Chevron Delo)
