Seth had an interesting puzzle last week. He is my son for those of you that don't know and one of my best countermen.

He must have learned it from someone else... ..... :-laf

Customer has a 6BT in some kind of tree killing apparatus, wanted a new transfer pump. He also stated that the transfer pumps simply would not last, said that the Cummins replacement pumps were junk. Tired of changing them.

Well, that did not sound right to Seth and he started asking questions. Finally got the answer that he needed when he asked for a description of the current transfer pump. Customer described a transfer pump for a P7100 pump (push button primer covered with rubber).

Trouble is the engine had a VE style injection pump.

That pump must have been just screamin' and growling trying to push fuel through that VE!!!!

Customer was still arguing when the new pump arrived that we shipped him, Seth told him his serial number called for what we sent and just put the darn thing on. It will last a lot longer than what was on it before.

Sometimes you have to send the customer what they need, not what they ask for... ... :D

Hey Mike, FYI, you can put a low pressure piston lift pump on a VE injected engine. Most of us "go fast" 1st genners have done it. I wonder if that's what it had originally, Case combines had the LP (low pressure) pump on them from the factory. The high and low pressure pumps look the same, but the spring is heavier and the piston is bigger in the high pressure one. The diaphragm style pump puts out 5-7 at idle and the LP piston is about 15-16 at idle.

Mike,

Sounds like you're training your son right. He should be able to replace you when retirement time rolls around.
