OK, I got a chance to try Old Smokey's (Mike) new fuel pin. I was very impressed. And now that he took it back (darn it) the changes were dramatic.

1. Didn't dyno it but the butt-cheek-O-meter says it had more power.

2. Much improved throttle responce. Even small changes.

3. Better fuel milage.

4. Smoother running overall

5. Smoother transition from low power settings to medium to full while driving.

6. Refer to my post on "emissions and DD3+ injectors", the pin was in for this.

I for one cannot wait for this new pin to be available. I think he is on to something here and after running one for a while I don't see any areas for improvement. The design is right.

Dave

P. S. I saw the dyno results from putting this pin into a completely stock truck( stock? there should be a law about that-where's pastor BOBs stick?). I will let them make the post on that, but, what I saw was amazing.

So has Old Smoky given any idea on when these will be available? I know he has been working alot (a definite understatement).

Inquiring minds want to know! :p

I sent Old Smoky a PM last week; dont think he has replied. In case he misses it, Put me down for one. I'm only at 28 psi (may get more when I get a good HG in) and 19. 5 mpg now. Would like to break 30/ 21 here at sea level.

hdm48, what kind of mileage increases did you notice? Smoke difference? I'm all for smoking out the flatulent hornet ricers, but I still see smoke as fuel that could have made more power. EGTs? slower, faster increase? peak, cruising differences? With my stock injectors, at 250K, I really need some PODs, but $$$ gets in the way. If you dont want to post it here, PM me.

Hey guys. The pins make 40hp. The test vehicle was a stock rig with a new injection pump and 315,000 miles. Smoke increase is minimal. The rig didn't have gages so I am unsure of boost and egt increase. They will be available in mid August. I have been very busy lately so I havent had time to read through the forums and pms. Thanks for posting your honest results Dave.

Mike

Dpuckett, the EGTs stayed at about 1300 pulling a 7% grade for 45seconds. Comes up quick then hangs there. No change there.

Smoke, if I stand on it I can still block out the sun, but that is largely due to the DD3+'s. But slight power smoke is gone.

Other than WFO, cruising is where you REALLY notice the pin design. It becomes a pleasure to drive back roads and the freeway. Power comes on quick and is tractable. Like I said before, small changes make a differance. There is no change in boost when cruising. In fact, untill you NEED the power, you don't know it is there. Plus, I picked up at least 1-2 MPG. This is a result largely due to the throttle responce increase. You don't need to push the throttle any more than what you need so you move it less. Make sence?

Mike (old smokey), better get some of those pins done soon or you'll have a hundred trucks sitting in the lot monday morning.

Also, I'll be by to pick up my check for all the free advertising

Dave

That sounds great, OFitzgerald. I will post in the Product/Accessory forum when they are done.

dpuckett, you have mail.

Thanks again Dave for taking the time to do some testing, and letting everyone know what you found. By the way, I didn't ask Dave to post this, he did it out of the kindness of his own heart. :)

Mike

Hey Mike, how does the HP increase compare to say a stock cone in the max setting?? Are you seeing 40HP OVER the stock cone in max setting or how are rating this increase???

Bob.

Hey Bob,

The gain is rated with the stock pin at the stock setting, versus the power pin. I don't have numbers yet for the max stock pin setting, versus the power pin.

Mike

Mike-

Is your new pin designed to allow for the least amount of fuel at no boost? I'm in dire need of minimizing my low boost/ idle fuel to reduce the light fog whilst idling but I don't want to give up the top end.

Jay

Jay, In can answer that for you. If you look at the pin, you will see that it is almost as far out as the stock pin in the stock location. The pin has an aggressive taper as the pin drops down but is mild on the low fuel area.

I never tried it with PODs, just the DD3+'s and I get no fog at part throttle settings.

This help?

Dave

Thanks Dave- if thats the case I'm on the list to try one :D

Hopefully by the end of the month I'll have a little better air flow to help clean the smoke up too. ;)

BTW Dave- did you ever find that old TPS? Never did find one.

Jay

Jay, I have looked and looked and I cannot find it. Normally I am consistant about keeping electrical parts together. But this one seems to have sliped by me. I will keep looking though.
