Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) wastegate adjustment

I have a 2002 White 2nd gen.

Call me crazy but I love the looks of the older second gen tailgates. I like that "plastic" stuff on the lower part of the tailgate. Practically speaking it also looks a little better as I have dented my tailgate now twice lowering it when there were rocks on the bumper from a load of topsoil.

I REALLY like the ones off of the 3500's with the three little tail lights in the center. So, some questions:

1. Is that plastic just covering the tailgate sheetmetal or is that a completly different type of tailgate?

2. What are the drawbacks of this type of tailgate? Why did Dodge stop making them? Any Issues?

3. Could I get one of those older tailgates for my truck and attach it or is it mounted differently?

4. Finally, anyone with a white older style tailgate with the three lights and that plastic stuff who would be willing to trade? :D

Thanks

Phil

Here is a pic of the style I am talking about. This is even white. I just need one with the three little marker lights.

you can snag one off of a 1500 pretty cheap and add the lights yourself- buddy of mine did the same thing - btw- they made the style tailgate you are talking about until they discontinued the 2nd gen in 02-

Anyone know of a good place to get the trim. Since mine was a sport model I don't even have the plastic "Ram 2500 24V" emblem.

I want the trim but DC wants about trucks worth to buy it.

Thanks guys!!

Makes it easier that it is a stick on. Does anyone have the part number for the three little marker lights that go on the tailgate??

Thanks

Phil

I am replacing the tailgate on my '00 3500 and the old one has the black plastic trim. I will not be putting the trim back on my new tailgate as I like the look without it. The trim is not damaged just a little faded from the weather but I put some silicone spray on it several months ago and it looked like new.

I am still using the old gate until I have my new one painted so if anyone is interested I will part with the trim just for the cost of shipping once the new gate is painted. PM me or let me know.
