Any thoughts on extreme outback engine driven air compressor? I need it to refill tires and maybe air tools. it will be installed in a 2018 3500 diesel.

I can’t speak to their engine driven ones but I have an extreme air. that I have had and used on my trucks for over 15 years. Just got around to putting it on the 17 over the winter.

When searching for "onboard constant duty air compressors" on Google, I found several like you want. You can read lots of reviews and look at installation instructions. I opted for Viair Constant Duty 12v one. There's even some info here on the TDR, which is where I found info to help with my decision last month.

Good luck finding what you're looking for and would like to see your installation with pics.

Cheers, Ron

I build an engine driven air compressor setup or my old Landcruiser some 20 years ago and it was much faster at filling large tires and put out enough CFMs to operate an impact gun.

The old 2-cyl York A/C compressors used on older Ford cars and trucks is ideal because it has it's own lubricating oil instead of relying on oil mixed with the refrigerant, as is the norm with modern A/C systems.

I don't know if there are kits available to fit a 2018 6.7 but here is a link for complete kits made to fit the older CTD trucks:

I’ve been using a York engine driven system on my 01 for years now. It moves a lot of air quickly. My only complaints are it also pumps a lot of oil out through my air lines and it threw the belt once. I upgraded to one of these and it helped with the oil problem.

Wiredawg thanks but when they build one for recreational use I will consider. They go for $6,000-$8,000 installed now

Wow, I would have guessed couple thousand dollars. I guess I'll keep mine for under $400.

Let us know what you get

I was thinking that it may fit in the location where the optional 2nd alternator mounts.
Anyone have a closeup photo showing a 4th gen 6.7 engine with that optional alternator?
