CAC pressure test setup (for all gens)

Steved,

Why don’t you just pull the spring and cut it down? That is a very easy fix and takes all of 10 mins to do. Cut one full turn off the spring and you should be around 18-19 PSI. Just put the cut end of the spring towards the fitting, not the ball. I did it on mine! Im at 18 psi (Down from 22).

/QUOTE]

There is a very easy explaination for this... I SHOULDN'T HAVE TOO MAKE A SPRING WORK... That's the reason I PAID GOOD MONEY for a unit that I should NOT need to service every couple months. I ended up paying $65 for two FASS springs because I was caught offguard, BOTH OF WHICH ARE NOW FAULTY.

I bought a 12psi spring... it broke. Bought another 12psi spring and 5 months later it won't even hold 7psi... put in a 17psi spring and I have 24psi... POOR QUALITY CONTROL.

I was a FASS promoter... until this... looking back, I would have been bloodpressure ahead to build a system.

It is the same physical size, but it is a 10 micron filter... not a screen... if you go this route, might as well run the 2 micron Racor filter...

But, as noted with the OEM pumps... they are made for pushing. not pulling... so this might shorten the life of the FASS motor??? Probably no different than running the FASS at 24psi like I have been forced to do until I get yet another %$&^%$! spring...

Thanks steved, is this Napa a water seperator, too? And also, can I get the 2 micron Racor to fit the Fass? Do you know the part number?

I believe the Napa is a water separator of sorts since it does have a drain...

PM BrettWilliams on this board and ask him... he sent it to me, but I deleted the part number for the Racor filter... the racor filter replaces the FASS screen and is a 2 micron filter and true water separator with a clear bottom cover (so you can see water/crud.

Just keep in mind that the Water separator is on the suction side and the Fuel filter is on the pressure side. Don’t restrict the suction side too much.

As much ummph as the FASS pump has, I was wondering how long it would take before dirt was suctioned through the filter media... and I cannot remember if those filters are designed to function in a reverse flow either, now that I think about it... can really remember how the FASS screen is filled (ie outside to inside or inside to outside...

I took the NAPA filter back and found a Caterpillar model 175-2949 on there now. It SAYS it's only a fuel/water seperator.....

..... but I don't know. It is exactly the same size as the one from DPP and it has a cool finger grip drain on it. Gasket is the same size but no small gasket, Painted in that funky yellow.

I'm going to try to get specs on it to see if it isn't really a filter.

Looked it up over at Wix (who makes Napa filters)... 3 micron filter... www.wixfilters.com ... . type in that number and this is what you will see (as well as a picture!).

I use Wix's site all the time!

I find it very interesting that the large diesel manufacturers use 3 micron (or smaller) filter medias, yet the automakers use 10 micron or larger media...

Is this to save cost? Or just guaranteed thet the makers will see trucks in for repair due to insufficient filtration??

Okay SteveD, I got one fer 'ya, Mr. Filter smarty!

Find me a replacement for the Amsoil BE-100 bypass! :D

I've been lookin, I've been lookin!!

I found one, but it is 10 micron... sorta defeats the purpose...

I assume those BE's are made by Donaldson... they probably list them somewhere if you could find someone to look them up by size...

I researched these FASS filters for quite some time... looking at the easy filter to get... sophatech has more options, but only sell in bulk.

I hear you.

Thanks for digging these up. Now back to Caterpillar for my $17. 69 back!

Brian

At one point there was a Cat 1R-XXXX that supposedly fit the FASS... it was good to 1 micron (yes, 1 micron)... I found the listing for it, but it was way too big for our application... like big enough it would have almost touched the ground and was 5 inches in diameter...

They list smaller ones, but nothing that had that small of filtration.

Got a refund and picked up the Luberfiner equivalent of a Wix 33691. The LFF 2203.

<Sigh>

No drain.

It is a screen filter, though, so I won't kill my FASS motor. I'll order an FS 1023 tomorrow...

... I'm tired.
