 Yikes! I am sorry to hear some of you have had some really bad luck with vehicles...I guess I should be counting my blessings...I've really only had 1 vehicle that was bad mechanically.

My first wife and I bought a Vega when they first came out. She kept it when we went our own ways. We got rear ended the first day we owned it. It back fired all the time. She later took it in for service and they told her that the muffler was blow out. She said, maybe from the back firing? They warrantied it.

Chapter two Vega! Girl friend had one that did the famous blown head gasket trick. I replaced the head gasket and she dumped it soon after on my guidance. When you looked at the back of the block you could see why head gaskets were an issue. Aluminum block and cast iron head equaled problems. 8-10" across the back of the block and 5/8-7/8 wide surface with no grove to keep the gasket from blowing out. Trouble city for sure!

My dad had a Pontiac Bonneville with the 350 diesel. The parking brake cable broke and it rolled down the hill into a juniper bush. I think he had it for about six months before the engine evacuated all of the oil and seized up. The GM dealership said it was from him not checking the oil, but he had just had the same dealership change the oil a week or two before that. The dealership ended up taking it back after that.

Yes, they were very unreliable. My father had a '71 and I remember him replacing the engine 2 times while he had it. He sold in '81 if I remember correctly.

HOWEVER they were cute little cars. The kit to put a SB Chevy it was boss. An aluminum Buick 215 V8 would have been cool.

A kid that I went to HS with had a wagon with a 327 in it. He had a lot of fun with it. :)
Like this!! Picture came from Ebay for a hood ad.

Ours was this green.

My roommate in college had a small block Vega. It was pretty cool. I think he still might have it parked in his shop.

Neighbor had a Cosworth Vega.

Sister bought a Vega, burnt oil. So we ripped that engine out and threw in a reman that had the steel sleeves. AWESOME car after that!

Cosworth Vega. Like putting Ferrari stickers on a Wheel Horse, with apologies to Wheel Horse owners.

Ok, so I had to dig out the old photo albums to find this picture of our 71. You can't really tell from the old photo, but it was a dark green.
