got a 03, cummings HO (305hp), 3500 quad cab long bed. Thinking of installing the muffler elimination kit. Anybody have experience with this. How louder does the truck get at idle and pulling a load (5th wheel trailer). Seems like a good idea- less back pressure, lower temps. That true? Need anybody's opinion soon as if it is a no go I need to return the kit soon.

Been there, done that. To loud and becomes real annoying after awhile. I also find straight piped diesels to be a real nuisance in rv parks and in town, especially when the drivers use no sense. I had to go to a new system on my truck as the stock tail pipe was cracking and about to fall off. I went to the MBRP turbo back system and I find it plenty loud when towing. I don't have any real test data but I don't think there is much difference. It just feels different because of the noise. I think our trucks have enough exhaust system for the size of the engine. I notice a lot of class 8 trucks with only a single exhaust, not a real big pipe, not noisy and still moving BIG loads down the road. Just my 2 cents.

Go to YouTube and find videos with people using straight pipes/stacks/different mufflers and decide then. Also, remember that real-life sound will probably be louder than the video camera picks up.

I ran with out a muffler for years on my 89 was never too loud. But the drone on my 05 was too much at 70 mph it would drive you out of the cab after about 15 min. I went with the Banks monster dual kit nice sound but I think when it falls off I'm going with a kit that Geno's offers for half the price... ...

I tried it for about a week. It sounded like crap. I have dual straight 4" stacks on my '96 and love the way it sounds. I hated the straight pipe on the '03, but i believe it is from the transition from 3. 5" to 4" pipe, as they sound great with a full 4" exhaust. I went with a Rip Rook 4" exhaust with a straight through muffler. Much better sound. The sound with the stock exhaust with the "ME" from Genos made it sound like a rice burner with a turbocharger. I HATED it. Remember, the 2003-2004s do not have a catalytic converter, so they are louder than the newer trucks with the muffler eliminated.
