So, I am trying to figure out if my transmission is still original or not. According to build date it should have a 47re. It's got about 188,000mi. I bought it with 184,000mi this spring from a co-worker. He did not do anything with it when he bought it but change fluid and I think tighten bands? He does not know from previous owner whether it got rebuilt or not. So,is there any way to know if it is still the original without taking it apart? It kind of hits hard when you shift from neutral to drive, don't know if this is like the original or if this would indicate that it has had been worked on in it's past.
Thanks.

If it's not an HO it's supposed to be a 47, There are major components inside that will show which transmission you have . Any knowledgeable transmission guy can tell you once it's apart.

Look for your truck equipment identification sheet, mind was inside the glove box, it will list the code number for you transmission. mind is a 48RE the code for it is DG8
