So far, I've really liked my truck,, spent to much money on it,, but it was worth it.

It drives a little crooked,, dyno'd @ 457HP, has a crystal claer LOUD sound system,, doesn't have brake pull, starts every morning, gets 12. 5 MPG, runs a 15. 3 @ 95MPH in the 1/4, still pulls 30,000+ pounds occasionally,, and daily whoops up on PSD's, D-Maxs, and some Mustangs and Camaro's.

Would I do it again today? No, I'd buy an '03 and do the same thing,, would I do it again back in '00 ? You Betchya! What would I change??

I would do EGR Brakes ASAP,, best money Ever spent on this truck, dual lift pumps, THEN injectors and PE COMP immediatly buy a 13" SBC (skip the 12" if you want high HP and tow) The HX-40 is noce with an 18 housing but it needs fuel to really shine (I have fuel :D )

It's been fun, and I look forward to owning an '03 (Someday)

I would say the difference between Merrick and RichR is that Merrick likes his trucks with some personality. I know I owned a Toyota Tundra, nice vehicle but no personality. I think Merrick is what the TDR is all about. Oo.

Quite true. My truck has a little personality, but it knows its place. And stays there. After my previous vehicles, I finally learned to expect things to be imperfect. Mine isn't perfect, but it is comfortable to drive for 14 hours a day, gets decent mileage, drives like a sports car, and still has no squeaks or rattles after 116K miles. And it has always gotten me to where I was going. And back.

Oh, I failed to mention the fuel level sender, which was screwed up for at least one winter. But over time, I guess the truck decided I wasn't going to fall for that trick, and straightened itself out. :)

Trucks are like children. The more attention you give them, the more they demand. You just have to teach them that if they only ask for attention they need, they'll always get it.

I drove an '88 F150 for 8 years. I test drove a PowerSmoke before I bought the Dodge. Even with all its 'personality', I *still* enjoy driving my Dodge every time I get in it; this is the first vehicle I haven't tired of by 75K-100K miles.

My truck? ... . I think I'll keep it.

Well let me defend myself. I had a major woodie, worked my ass off(paid cash)went to rallies before I had a truck(drove a Neon for 3 years in between trucks). I was on the internet learned about Diesels, what to order,How to take care of it. After getting quite fustrated with the same problems(Brake pull, fuel gauge, etc)over and over plus the t-case on a lightly used truck I gave up. I also had bad luck with the previous 3 Dodge products. I have a good buddy with a '96 with no problems. Plus other nits with the use of a CTD in Chicago(my fault)I want no problems. I do not haul heavy.

Yes I do miss the Torque and the stomp on it smoke,The mpg's and the seats. But I still love to be here,I hope you all don't kick me out!:D

RichR, I'm not saying you did anything bad. Toyota makes the best vehicles in the world. My Tundra was so nice I felt like it should of been a Lexus pickup truck. But you got to admit that when it comes to personality the Dodge CTD has it coming out of its tail pipe :D The chances of getting a bad Toyota are very very small. I am sorry you had a bad experence with the Dodge CTD. You have the right truck if you don't want any problems.

I guess I have had it easy

My 2000 2500 4X4 now has 117,00 miles on it. It has traveled the Alaska Highway to California and back three times. One trip it hauled a trailer with a vehicle on it (about 8000 pounds). It has traveled on most of Alaska's highways (or reasonable facsimilie of) both loaded and unloaded. It is used in temperatures from 110 degress (California) to 50 below. It has driven through rivers and sand pits. It is a daily communter between Palmer and Anchorage, much of the winter in 4X4. It now has a 2800 pound slide in camper.

What has been done with it beside normal maintance?

Windshild wiper motor replaced under warranty

Lift pump under warranty

Crank position sensor.

That is it. . I still have the original brakes, shocks etc. Just now I am considering replacing the brakes and shocks.

It is bone stock (soon to change).

I usually don't have much luck with a vehicle but this one has treated me well. So well, I was going to buy and 03 but decided to wait. I like it that much.

Hmmm... .

Things that broke in the first 100K miles:

fuel level sending unit X2

lift pump X2

axle seal (both sides)

clutch (too much power)

clutch (center forcse P. O. S. )

after 100K

rear brake cylinders (both sides)

at 170,000 miles the transmision wore out. The input shaft had 3/8" play (up and down) in it. This in turn ripped out the center of the South Bend Clutch. :(

Now it has a new transmission with a 1 3/8" input shaft and a new 13" south bend OFE. Of course as luck would have it the transmision is now leaking gear lube. :{ Soo it's coming out again next week.

other than the transmision problems I have no complaints. since the truck is far from stock (power wise) I really can't compain about the transmission. It held up longer than I thought it would. .

Covered under warranty: warped brake drums, rear transmission seal, track bar, various hose leaks and transient electrical problems, throttle cable. A half dozen recalls!

Beyond warranty: fuel tank sender, another 2 track bars (last one was a Luke's), fuel return line, front axel u-joints, rear drive shaft u-joint, KDP tab, main vacuum line, starter motor. Also cracked the front hold down ears for the bed, but that was from over loading.

Lift pump, 3 rear tailhousing seals(replaced whole housing and no problem now) rear pinion seal, rear wheel cylinder, clutch due to power increases,4 u-joints (but i do lots of hauling)cam sensor(I think that is what it was), Engine position sensor, exhaust manifold, and the aluminum air intake elbow cracked and was replaced. truck has 142,000 miles on it now!

damn... . I must have gotten the best of the lot..... 128,000 miles and other than a set of brake pads, tires, shocks and the routine oil and filter changes I have done nothing to this truck.

:D I have 270 K on my 94 4x4, it really has done well other than front end problems... ... ...

first 100 K

balljoints were too tight from factory

4 track bars

(1) Lift Pump (knock on wood)

front brakes (can't count them) daily wear & tear!

Of course I've still got 1000 miles to go so all sorts of things could happen. Trackbar, transmission, oil sending unit, ball joints, etc, etc, .....

So far so good! Looking forward to seeing 200,000 & then 300,000... ... .

REAL TRUCKS RATTLE! Right?

Clay

First 100K miles: Nothing broke. Replaced 2 sets of front brake pads, new tires @ 66K mi, new batteries @ 81K mi, regular service items (oil & filter changes, ATF changes & band adjustments, rear axle gear oil changes, K&N air filter cleaning, fuel filter changes, valve lash check/adjustments, re-pack front bearings & suspension joints with grease). That's it.

Second 100K miles: New starter @ 107K mi (probably could have used some of Larry's Super contacts instead, but I didn't know of them), new fuel tank sender @ 117K mi, new shocks @ 121K mi, new throttle cable @ 131K mi (recall item), new lift pump @164K mi, new water pump @ 176K mi, new rear brake shoes (original) @ 190K mi.

Some additional products were installed during the course of ownership that weren't replacements but enhancements (plate, injectors, mag-hytecs, extra ATF cooler & fan, guages, etc. ). That's it. Oh, and the tank just can't seem to stay full - I always have to pull into truck stops and re-fill it. :p (today's prices=:{ )

107,000+ on truck -

18,000 miles, left front u-joint replaced under warranty

45,000 - 1st and only set of brakes, front and rear (burned up rears driving from Alaska to Md pulling 12000 5th wheel

80,000 left front u-joint again - replaced all 8 u-joints in truck with greasable ones

97,000 started BOMBing when warranty was up, am slowly upgrading everything possible.

Since then - tabbed KDP (thanks TDR)

RS9000x's

new track bar - which actually needed replaced a long, long time ago

and engine BOMBs (see sig)

Normal oil changes and on 3rd set of tires -(for maybe 10000 more miles)

Fuel gauge hasn't worked right in 3 years. When it says I'm empty, I might be able to squeeze 20 gallons in it. Kind of like it that way.
