When I put my Diamond B 370`s in, I`m going to replace the OE delivery valves with High Performance ones. Main reasons are: I have the off idle stumble now. Its not bad but it will probably get worse with higher flow injectors. I have to take the injection lines off anyway. Might as well do them at the same time. The high performance delivery valves were relatively inexpensive and look like an easy installation. If they help to smooth out the flat spot, thats good enough.

I ordered the delivery valve holder socket from Miller tools P# 6840. about $41 #ad

The best instructions I can find is the Dodge TSB to adjust the timing. No installation instructions with the new valves. The TSB instructions seem pretty dummy proof.

See Here: http://www.ecpe.vt.edu/~dfritz/technical/tsb94/18-10-94/18-10-94a.htm
( we are only concerned with steps 5-9 & 24-30)

I have a couple of questions:

1) Are the remaining delivery valves (2-6) done the same as #1. In other words does it matter where on the fuel pump cam shaft the plunger is when I pull the valve holder? Does the engine need to be barred over so the plunger is not on the high point of the camshaft lobe? Engine is at TDC to remove Valve # 1. (in the TSB). Is this JUST for timing purposes?

2) Should I "dip" my fingers in Diesel fuel when I handle the new valves?

Any other Tips & Hints would be greatly appreciated. #ad

I have been waiting for someone to try the High Performance Delivery Vales. I've installed the 370 injectors & #5 plate and the off idle stumble is pretty bad in my 94.
When you get them installed please post if it solves the stumble.
Don't have any answers to your questions.

Gene,
I`ll even let you use the delivery Valve socket if you need it.

Trying to find a good Bosch Inline Fuel injector service manual. Found a few. It looks like they are more of an overview of the pump and how the parts operate. Not a diagnostic & repair publication.

Keep an eye on this thread for info after I change them, in a week or 2.

Joe D, Piers, Powerwagon & DieselB59. . Are you out there? #ad

Hi Bill, the delivert valve kit comes with new o-rings & gaskets. Once the lines are off you undo the barrells & lift them off. Next remove the spring & the little seat, there will be shims in between the seat & spring, DO not loose them, do one at a time. Pull out the delivery valve and holder, "some" of the older pumps have a metal gasket under the delivery valve holder, if so replace it. Put in the new D. V. & holder, if you're not touching the valve itself you don't have to worry about having diesel on your hands. Install new o-ring on barrell & install spring & seat assembly. Torque to 85 ft. lbs. Repeat 5 more times, you don't have to rotate the engine. Enjoy #ad

I have them in my pump. I did the job in about twenty minutes. You don't need to be at any specific TDC for any cylinder. Just remove your intake, the fuel lines as a unit (take out the two 10mm bolts that hold them down to the manifold), then break them loose. They will be darn tight. Carefully unscrew them with the special socket and when totally backed out, lift slowly off the pump as there is a spring inside. Use a magnet and remove the spring and keep everything in the order that it came out. If you have a problem, use one of the other untouched ones as a guide. Remove the delivery valve with the magnet and clean off any paint that may have dropped in. Then clean off the wax from the new valve and drop it in place. The valves may look very different, but they will work. Take a glob of vaseline (so the spring doesn't fall out of the retainer when you go to screw it down) and totally cover the spring assembly in it, insert into the retainer that you took off first, coat the o-ring and threads with a little oil, and tighten to spec. Repeat 5 times. The vaseline dissolves when fuel hits it. The job is way easy, but I cannot stress the importance of not dropping the springs.

Thanks Piers & DieselB59 for the tech on the D V change.

It should be a breeze (I hope)

Gene,
I have the complete Miller timing kit at the house. When you get ready to do your delivery valves, Give me a call at 456-6544. You can come over here, or I could come over to your place and we can slap those suckers in there #ad

Tman,

1) No. Timing is not effected at all with a delivery valve change.

2) About $250

Tman, Is it snowing up your way yet? #ad
