Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) P-pump ideas...

I am building a 24v with a p-pump conv. I have a pump off of a 96 that I put delivery valves in but have been told many times that I still won't see the power that I would from a 215 pump out of a 97. . Is this true and if so would I be better off just getting a 13mm plunger pump built or is there a way to get the parts and have a local pump shop do the work? I have also looked at a p-pump from an 8. 3 cummins that is supposed to be 275 hp. Would this bolt up and be a better choice? I am somewhat on a budget since I have the whole truck to build along with the engine. Any help or opinions would be appreciated

The 96 pump you have may be a 215 pump anyway. was the truck standard or automatic? better yet, what are the numbers off the id plate on the left front side of the pump? quite a bit of power can be had from any of the pumps if tuned properly. Jeff Garmon and Brad Ponci have made 600+ hp off those "small" pumps.

Thanks for the info. Other than del. valves fuel plate and gov. springs, what else could I do to gain power? I am not too worried about streetability since it will probably be non intercooled with water/meth unless I can find parts to maybe build an air to water intercooler
