Please don't call me sacreligious:eek: I found a intercooler for a Fxxd P-Stroke (so that's what the swap-meet vender said it was from), anyway. It was priced very low. Does anyone know if it is larger than our first gen intercooler? If it is, would it work in one of our trucks? Does a bigger air-charge system=better performance?

I can hear the pastor and some of you others ready to let me have it... $90. 00 for an intercooler, you think it's full of holes?:D

Patrick.

Patrick,

A heads up... ... .....

Don't be surprised if the Pastor deletes this post of you'rs and issues hp demerits :p

I have been trying to get one installed in my project truck. Compared to the stock intercooler it's HUGE. I have heard of a few guys who have cut them down some heightwise, but I am trying to trim enough off the lower valance to clear. Widthwise they fit fairly close. Inlet and outlet pipes are larger than 1st gen intercooler hoses, may be possible to use 2nd gen parts? I just custom fabbed some new steel tube adaptors to mate with what I had.

So it's probably a good idea that I plan on installing a 2nd gen cooler on mine? Better performance from a larger intercooler? Cool, (any and all puns intended); I didnt realize that. Now I'm definitely after a newer one. I can probably get a good one for <$200 thru a firend of mine that has a junkyard here in the swamp. I've measured, and it WILL fit. If not at ifrst, we'll have to get a plasma cutter and a welder to do so.

I replaced my stock intercooler with the ford intercooler and it wasn't easy!

I had to remove the stock mounting brackets on the core support and open the holes on both sides much larger, the ford unit is taller so it has to sit right down on the frame so that the hood latch on top won't hit.

The grill clears just barely but the air dam running horizontally between the top of the bumper and the bottom of the grill has to be drilled and trimmed on the passengers side because the end tanks are so much deeper on the ford unit.

I mocked this up several times to remove the minimal amount because I wanted it to appear as close to stock as possible and I am very pleased with the outcome. I think taking your time and doing it right is better in the long run.

I used ford intercooler boots, they are 3" so I modify my in intercooler pipes to 3" on the ends.

I'ts allot of work but this conversion adds boost and reduces egt's and reduces smoke. It my not be popular on this forum but I think It's trick :D

I wish you luck with this conversion and I hope this helps.

I think the power stroke intercooler ought to be the popular swap around her. Anyone actually put one up against the 2nd gereration Dodge intercooler. There will be no doubt which one you'd prefer to use. Heck, even on my Ford/Cummins swap it's really a tight fit. Lots of trimming, cutting, coercing and cussing.

But I believe totally worth the trouble. Just an awesome, inexpernsive intercooler. Ya'll had better grab them when you can because they're now made with the plastic tanks and don't work well with high boost.

I'm planning on using one from a '99 F-350 in my coach. The reason I decided to use one of these units is it was the best fit dimension wise. The core is supposedly 31"x19"...

and it will fit nicely in front of the new custom-made billet aluminum radiator, which is 28"x19":

Getting in all plumbed in is going to be another story... :--)
