My good friends grandson recently purchased a 95 2500 and was taken advantage of. I am helping him through his problem purchase and quite frankly I am stumped.

Problem: No Start

Overview: The truck has about 300K miles, the top of the pump has been into, and the previous owner removed the fuel control soleniod, all associated hardware and installed a manual kill switch that pulls the fuel shutoff arm on the p7100 via an in cab cable. The truck was reported to run fine before the last shutdown and has not ran since.

Data: I started working on the truck and was not able to prime the system due to a bad primer on the fuel pump. I replaced the fuel pump and was able to prime the system. I also had to replace the 90 degree fuel hose that connects the fuel heater to the pump due to excessive cracks. I checked the hoses to and from the fuel tank. They have been previously replaced and appear good. I went ahead and tightened up the bolt on the bottom of the fuel heater. We can get fuel to the p7100 but for the likes of me I cannot get any fuel to the injectors. I have tried moving the fuel shutoff on the side of the p7100 while turning over the engine and there is simply no fuel going to the injectors. We can take off the injector lines from the pump and turn the engine over and just nothing.

Solutions: Anyone?

Have you verified the fuel shut off cable is pulling the lever full up? SE TX is a big area. How far are you from Galveston?

Yeppers... When the cable is released. . the lever returns to the full forward position. I have checked to see if the set screw on the lever was loose to verify that the lever was not spinning on the shaft. I have been throwing everything in my TDR search arsenal at this truck. I have limited knowledge on the inner workings of the fuel shutoff of the p7100. Is there something that could be preventing rack travel on this thing. Maybe a broken lever inside the pump or something.

I live near the TX/LA border so Galveston is a good 2 hour trip.

Thanks

Full forward? The lever on mine goes up and down. Didn't I see a '97 in your sig? The '95 should be the same as far as I know.

If there is fuel getting to injection pump and the shut off lever works, I'd investigate the gear case. You can remove the oil fill tube and verify inj pump gear operation. If that checks out, it might be needing pump work.

Here is a picture of the P7100. There is a red arrow pointing to the fuel control arm on the pump. The arm as a forwards and backwards movement. When the arm is moved to the rear, it resets the rack and stops fuel flow. At least this is the way the kill cable is set up on the 95 that I am helping my friend salvage for his grandson.

Snappy: Thanks... I have already pulled off the filler tube and verified that the gear is turning the injection pump. I am stumped here. I hope, for the sake of my friends grandson, that the pump has not taken a dump. How can I verify that the arm is functioning internally and how much travel should I see from front to rear? It currently has quite a bit of travel and I can feel spring pressure that returns the arm to the forward position.

Are you getting fuel through the delivery valves to the Lines. If so then I would say that the pump is good. It may be the fuel lines. ? Correct me if I am worn on this. Has the truck been powered up at all and is the pump out of time? I just ran into this when I fixed my KDP on my 97!

edgeman: thanks for your input... I was not getting any fuel through the delivery valves at all. I must have had a cerebral stool or something. I found the problem today. The overflow valve was stuck in the open position. Anyhow... I replaced the overflow valve, primed the system, and the engine fired off.

Thanks for the help everyone,
