I have a gen 1 with 250000KM - bad wrist pin on #4 cyl - but still drives well. Just won't leave town with my 5th wheel the way it is.

I bought a 97 engine complete with a million KM on it - and a new 7100 on it. Crank, bore, etc all perfect. Had the head recon'd - planed, etc. Cam has some wear, assume lifters the same.

Question - has anyone tried to put a P7100 (or an engine with a P7100) into a Gen 1? I'm concerned about the clearance between the 7100 and the power brake booster. Alternatives: thinner booster off a 97, or a hydraulic system from a GM school bus.

Any thoughts?

They will fit and work fine. Now if you can come up with the hydro brake system from something else that would be a great upgrade.

I'm vaguely familiar with these systems - but how does one ballance the pressures and the anti-lock brakes? A certain bore size in a regular master cyl gives a specific amount of pressure in a wheel cyl of a certain size - not sure how this would work with a hydravac designed for a much larger truck. Where would I start? I have a fairly well equipped shop, and my son is a steel fabricator - so I have resources . . .

The gen2 CTD trucks all went to hydo boost systems and they are about the same size. Even GM used it on their diesels many years ago. Pick-n-pull if you can find them.
