Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Pacbrake or BD for auto

mroidt, Me bad, not you, on the assumption of the pxrb--this is a thread for the 24 valve CTD, not the 3rd gen--I hijacked it,, but was not careful enough on the details. In any case, I do MUCH appreciate your looking up the BD review in TDR#49.
SNOKING, are there any disadvantages to down line exhaust brakes? I don't really plan on bombing my truck past 65 additional hp, perhaps with a Superchips Firefly box, so I don't really see replacing the stock turbo.

Well if you are looking at a brake then you tow. Cooling EGT's is an issue towing. If I had it to do again, I think I would install an inline. I went from a HY35 to a PDR35 to cool EGT, but have not tow much yet. Will be doing a 6-8 week RV trip this fall thru the western states. Hopefully I will be able to use my power better now.



My son was a Banks dealer, so I ended up with that brake. They have both 3. 5 inch and 4 inch brakes. I went with the 4 inch. Ended up getting both the down pipe and intermediate Banks pipes to create a bolt in installation. SNOKING

SNOKING, after looking at some other threads regarding the PDR35, I would like to clarify with you that
1) it is a good match for an edge ez box,
2)it will more than likely help keep EGT's in check while towing
3) it is compatible with a turbo mount brake like the BD or PRXB
and 4) all of the above holds true for a stock 2005 HO CTD, which I believe already has a 4" exhaust

exhaust brakes, you might wanna check

Ok guys sorry to bud in here but when you start talking quality of the PACBRAKE product I have to comment on this. I am not going to bad mouth BD in anyway but I want to set the record strait.



1st) carbon causing the brake to stick, Pacbrake uses the ARCOR nitrating process, this is fills all the little porosity holes in the machined casting resulting in a smooth surface to prevent carbon and rust from building up within the brake resulting in a sticking situation.



2nd) We nitrite our butterfly shaft which adds lubricity therefore a bushing is not required.



3rd) Our PRXB pressure regulating system is mechanically actuated therefore you are not relying on a pressure switch to potentially fail and over pressure your engine.



4th ) Pacbrake limited warranty 3 years 100,000 miles Parts Labor, and progressive damage. The others check them out.



5th ) Pacbrake’s Air systems are build uponable, you can add our air horn kits our air suspension systems or competitors air suspension system.
