It's unfortunate that there aren't more VGT options, but I suppose it is what it is... Even on the 6. 7 where the controller came stock there aren't too many options and most ditch them.

I think a GT3788R with a variable housing would be a great turbo, and if you could open it enough (30cm??) you could use it for tow twins without needing an external gate, but it would have to go WAY open. . . and closed since an exhaust brake is mandatory IMHO...

But back to what the OP's first question was about. A BOV isn't what you are looking for, and only a DP gauge will tell you if you need a WG. If you find you need one then I would put a gated 12cm housing on there, your response will be night and day different.

Yep, the range for VGT operation is small and it is complicated. The other big drawback on a 12V is they will soot and stick. Even on a cleaner burning 6. 7 they stick if ones doesn't drive them hard. Which, in the end, is contrary to efficiency and the cost of diesel. :(

Not required at all. Just keep the exhaust brake on. The closing of the nozzle ring on deceleration and opening on acceleration keeps soot from building up.

I for one would really like to see the boost vs DP in that setup across the operating rpms. Every setup varies a bit and would be extremly enlightening to see what you have. :)
