We had our first good hail storm last night, unfortunatly my truck did not get into the shop. Went and got estimates today, the insurance company wants to try Paintless dent repair before conventional repairs are done. I have never had this done before and was wanting input from you folks on TDR. I am trying to look on the bright side, maybe they cant fix my hood and I will have to put on a cowl hood. Thanks in advance for any input.

Brett,

Check with a couple of paintless dent shops. I had hail damage to my truck last year. Looked like a really rough orange peel all over. It was borderline for being able to be completed via paintless method. One shop I took it to wouldn't even touch it. The next one said they would, but laughed at the insurance estimate. BTW, they did do a very good job.

Badinfluence, Sorry to hear about the damage, but all is not lost. My Y2k dually was in a bad hail storm when it was only 2 weeks old. Large golf ball sized hail. I ripped the covers off of the bed and ran out of the house and threw myself over the hood and tried to cover the cab with my wifes comforter and blankets. She just knew I lost it and went crazy. The damage to my truck broke my heart. I went to several body shops, and the damage was $4500 to $6000 depending on the shop, and two weeks to repair with body filler and paint. A buddy told me about an outfit called Dent Doctor. They said a day and a half, and $1600 with no body filler and no paint. They did over 3500 new cars for the dealers in the area whose new cars were damaged in this storm. The guy demonstrated the technique for me and in less than 2 minutes made a dent that I chose just disappear before my eyes. I let them do it, and I swear, you can't tell. They took over 350 dents out of the hood alone. The roof, fenders and bed sides were also badly hit. The rear fenders didn't have a mark on them though. Absolutely incredible. They do it by working the dent from the back with various sized rods with different shapes on the ends, and NO body filler or paint. For the new car outfits, they can get their cars repaired and can still claim that they are new if there is no filler or paint used in the repair. Give them a try, you'll be amazed. Let us know how it works out for you.

:) Ditto on the Pintless Dent Removal. I used an out fit by the name of THE CAR MEDIC after some &^%$#@&^*#@ did a smash and grap on the passenger side window. They put a dent the size of a 50 cent piece right through the body line just below the window. When I finally got home from the trip with the new window I had my doubts. The guy took a look at it and siad he would need to put one small hole in the end of the door to get to it as it could not be done by removing the door panel where it was at. Took him 10 minutes and your can't even see where it was. As long as the paint is not cracked or broken they can bring it back. I was amazed. The spot where he went into the door has a plug installed that looks like a factory access hole in the end of the door. It is a good system. :D :D

Dent Doctor

Same deal here. Had hail damage on mine repaired last month by Dent Doctor. Looks as good as, if not better than, new. I'm a believer.

ive had it done by a local outfit called DentMagic here and they are absolutely awesome. You cant tell there was ever a problem. They have always been very upfront with me about what they can and can not do. As with everything else, the quality depends on who is doing it, so ask around and get references if possible. I always ask for the same guy. The others are probably just as good, but ive used him and he is great.

Ive been a dent guy for 10 years. Trust me when I tell you that the process works and the results are amazing... . the caviat is: it's all done by hand. The quality of the job is the hands of the tech doing the work. When you call up a franchise, you never know who's comming to do the work. Go with an independent, and get references.
