Sharp Zaurus
Been runnin' a Sharp Zaurus SL-5500 about a month now and love it. Great display and it has a built-in keyboard. Built-in complact flash and SD card slots and IR port.
It will sync with MS Outlook via Intellisync s/w. If you don't run MS crap, then you can install Qtopia desktop and sync with that s/w on either MS OS or Linux platforms.
Many, many apps are available for the Zaurus and most are free for the d/l. More apps available every day of the week. Check out

I have no experience with the Palms. Visors, IPAQ's etc. Just the Zaurus. I bought it because it runs Linux as its' OS. The Palm's in particular as I understand it, have a little slicker user interfaces. However, the built-in apps like Calendar, To Do list etc work OK for me. There are after market commercial replacement apps available which are supposed to be better. I am happy with mine as is.
Already there are alternative Linux OS's coded and available if the user wishes to "BOMB" their Zaurus so to speak. Better use of the built-in memory etc. I haven't tried 'em though. Again, I am happy with the Zaurus as issued. I have added several s/w apps though that make the Zaurus even more useful to me.
The CF card slot allows the user to plug in an ethernet card (wired or wireless), a serial card, a modem, a digital camera, etc.
Mine gets used on the job to telnet into UNIX/LINUX machines and to ftp files on and off of those machines. The user can also telnet/ftp into the Zaurus as well.
It's more than a palm device. It's truly a hand held computer with the tremendous power of Linux.
