I'm being immature and trying to get more turbo whine/noise. I was thinking that if I removed the foam prefilter from my airfilter the turbo might be louder. Would the removal of this prefilter cause any damage to the turbo? Where I'm at now i rarely drive on dirt roads if that matters. I know the easy answer for more turbo nose is a cone filter, but I'm bored and just looking for a reason to fiddle with my truck. Your thoughts? Oo.

I don't know if it will help increase the turbo noise but some say the foam is there to help stabilize the paper part and keep it from collapsing. have you removed the snorkle between air box and fender, that might give a little more turbo noise.

The 6BT motors in applications other than a Dogde, use a filter w/o the foam prefilter. The foam, I think, probably had something to do with DC. FWIW - You can also buy the exact same filter w/o the foam pad.

If you want to hear turbo noise, a K&N RE-0880 , along w/ removing the silencer ring should do the trick.

Also you could remove the muffler, or get a 4" exhaust, to hear it out the pipe. .

It'll even run better.

No personal experience, but I remember seeing that drilling a few holes in the pre-filter side of the stock housing can increase the noise...

The K&N 0880 will definetly allow more turbo noise. I just sold mine to a TDR member for $20. 00 plus shipping. The wife and I preferred to keep the shouting to when we disagree on things. Some like the noise some don't;) .

The Fleetguard replacement filter, from Cummins, does not come with a foam prefilter. By the way... After almost 2 years on the original filter, and no movement on the "filter guage" I decided to replace it. It was dirty, but not clogged, and when I pulled the foam off, it was pretty dirty underneath... ;)

I'm not trying to start and argument here, but I want to clear this up for some of the new members that may be reading this.

The Fleetguard replacement filter that Genos sells, AF25541, does have the foam prefilter. This is the same filter sold at Cummins for the Dodge application.

There are other non-Dodge applications with a 6BT that call for the same filter only minus the foam.

The foam must be a Dodge thing :)
