r side pop the plug a little tight but not bad l side what a joke still fabing a tool alittle at a time.

in case you dont know the l side adjuster is at the top recessed between the tube and brake bracket with the spring block 2" away#@$%!

anyone have a trick for this without pulling the drum (dont wanna buy a seal)

I HATE AMERICAN AXLE i guess they were too cheap to design a right and left backing plate#@$%!

service manual says use brake adj tool didnt see a special PN# so i assume a reg brake adj tool YEAH RIGHT!

Is this for your 2003? I guess I haven't looked at mine to see how this all works as mine has discs on the back. I take it the parking brake is inside the hub?

All I do, is take the caliper/rotor off. Then I use the die grinder to take the lip off of the drum portion of the rotor. Once I do that, I'll get the pads tight to the drum and reinstall. I do it this way just to grease the pins at the same time.

yeah didnt wanna pull it cause the dual cone seal they use hate to put it back without a new one

It has been a long time since I did mine but I know I bought another brake tool and cut it in half so that the procedure was a lot easier. I can't remember for sure but I think clearance to move the tool was the problem so I just cut it to length.

On our 02 at the fire department, I have found it quicker to take the U-bolts loose and drop the axle down from the spring. With these idiots we have driving with the parking brake set, I have got it down were I can have them adjusted in under 30 minutes. Too much practice!

I recently put a new hub seal on the right side of my '04. I adjusted the e-brake too tight the first time around. I agree, they are a PITA. I had to take the tire and hub off to readjust. There's no way any tool can fit to adjust the e-brake on the right side, in my opinion. The springs are in the way. I think the left side is ok, if memory serves.

driver (left) Pass (right)

r side on the bottom and fairly easy

l side is on the top and near impossible because the spring as you mentioned

i got engouh clicks to hold my truck on slight inclines like some parking lot round town

no more coming out of a store and finding my truck in the street
