If you have to park on an incline, is it best to park nose up or nose down. My driveway is sloped and parking nose down would keep the rear-axle gear oil up by the pinion gear, but what about the engine oil?

I guess I’m asking where the oil pump is and which position would help get oil to the engine quicker when starting cold in the morning. Perhaps it really doesn’t matter? Perhaps it depends on the amount of incline. I don’t know the degree of incline of my driveway; so just in general, what do you think is best: nose up or nose down?

With the engine oil pick-up in the rear, a nose up attitude seems to me to be the best.

I'm not sure which is better, but i can warn you of this; last summer i was parking my truck on the delivery ramp for our office, and one day i came out at the end of the day and my truck was moved down the ramp about ten feet. I thought one of the guys was playing a joke on me so i started to ask around (theres only 3 of them) and no one admitted to it. well as it turns out they didnt mess with it, it was left in first gear and it rolled by itself down the ramp.

Moral of the story use the parking brake. #ad

I have to back my truck into a carport,so It's nose down for me. Never had a problem. The truck would have to be on a really, really steep slope for the pump pickup tube not to get anything.

My father told me a story about a 18 wheeler unloading grain at a big elevator where the whole truck and trailer are raised to about a 45 degree angle to allow the grain to slide out the rear of the trailer. As it turns out, one driver left his truck idling while unloading. When the ramp came down-the engine was no longer running(oil starvation-engine siezed up).

I agree with the nose up also. From the way you describe you could almost let the truck roll back before starting it if you wanted. I have heard of engines locking up on 18 wheelers where they were left running on the road at a steep angle leaning to one side.
