I have read the entire thread on competition diesel that was max spool vs. F1 and it was a heated debate there was talk about running a test between max spool vs. F1 vs. stock, they did the test on a 3rd gen but no 2nd gen, I am trying to get info on PDR vs. F1 or vs. max spool and if so if someone has run one of the them, I am trying to get everyone opinion about the cams.

I'm running a Haisley street cam. It's the only after market cam I have personal experience with. Spool speed & smoke control were both noticeably improved. From what I understand, all the street cams will perform about the same as the profiles are nearly identical. The biggest differences are in being a regrind or new billet. &b in how the drive gear is fastened. New billet cams are more expensive but have a cam for an older style mechanical fuel lift pump.

;) I thought so,very few need a billet cam. MUCH more money and most of us will not need anything that strong or expensive. A big p pump and lots of rpm will make the billet cams more attractive.

I just don’t know about what cam to run pdr or f1 they are both good, pdr marine cam say that I will lower egts by 200 and add 2mpg but I am look in to the cam so I can run a mechanical lift pump to get away from those stupid electric pumps, but ever one of f1 disturber so that it will do the same thing, and I am able to get both of them with a bolt on gear.

If you are just doing a cam to get away from the lift pump (and enjoy the side benefits of the new cam) then I would suggest an
AirDog. Mine has run for 255,000 miles with no issues. Much cheaper and easier install than a cam.

PM me for a AirDog dealer.

I thought of running a airdog but I don't like the fact that their are filters that hang down, I know that the filters don't hang down far there than the frame rail. I plan on moving to montana in the next year on so and I dont want to get rid of the fuel heater. I know that airdog says that if you are getting pure fuel you will have better starts in cold weather but you are pulling out air that is so small that you can see it with the naked eye I dont know I just might get a airdog after I get the cam, the cam will give me better spool and the airdog will give me pure fuel. Thanks for the info so far.

DFleming,

I mounted my AirDog IN the bed of the truck, mainly because I could drain or change the filters at any time easily without getting dirty. There is a 115 gal tank mounted in the front of the bed and I mounted the AirDog between it and the side of the bed. I know this doesn't work for everyone but it does solve the "hanging low" problem.

Godspeed,
Trent

I like my F1 Helix 2 cam, the head definately breaths noticably better. I did it mostly to do a mechanical lift pump, which I never did. In my case I got a fairly nice EGT redution and a drop in boost pressure.

The F1 cams have a mechanical pump lobe, where I don't believe the MS cams have as they are regrinds. From what I understand the Helix 1 is just basically for that purpose as the grind is very mild. So IMO not much point in installing a Helix 1, but even at high RPM use I don't believe it requires a spring upgrade.

Also from reading the same thread you did on CompD, amongst so much bickering, it seemed that one could also order a "custom grind" for a MS. I don't believe F1 offers anything other than their 3 production grinds.

Out on the track / pull performance wise, I bet they are close. Comparing the $ to performance increase ratio that is a toss up for the average bomber to decide whether it is worth it or not.

Noseeum do you do any pull with your helix 2 like moving livestock or rvs, do you feel a differents in pulling a grade. Does it fell like the truck just keeps digging for more.
