Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) where to get a PCM

I recently hooked up my edge comp completely. I can say Woo Hoo for about 10 seconds then my EGT's are thru the roof :D :(. I have ordered a PDR HX35 which is supposed to be shipped Monday (tomorrow). Is this turbo going to keep my EGT's in check or should I go ahead and upgrade to an HX40? An answer as soon as possible will be appreciated so I can cancel the 35 if necessary.

I have the turnbuckle on my HY35 what is the most boost I should be able to effectively produce? I have the buckle fairly tight but can only see 30# of boost. This seems low.

Thank-You

I would go for the 40. The way your going injectors are next, right? if you get bigger injectors you'll outgrow the 35 real fast.

With out more fuel the 40 may be a little laggy tho. Best thing you can do is call Piers, tell him exactly what you plan on doing to the truck and he'll point you in the right direction.

go for the pdr40. it was the only way for me to keep my egts down while pulling a hi alt hill on a warm day. worth the xtra cost over the pdr35. i tried a pdr35 for a real short time. no help... ... the spoolup of the pdr40 is decent too. i was happy with it. cruzin temps w/ trlr was higher but pulling up a hill at wot it was manageable. the pyro needle moved very slow from 1100 to 1200. and just barely creeped from 1200 to 1300. pdr40 was an answer to my hi egt prob Oo.

Since you have injectors already I would honestly go for the PDR HX40. The PDR HX35 will work for normal driving and whatnot, but 5x5 on the COMP you'll bury the pyro.

If you don't like the 40 you can ALWAYS find a buyer for it and goto the HX35.

I would go with the 40 it will spool just fine I have one on a truck that only makes 310 hp with a DTT 91% converter and it works fine.

Another thing has anyone figured out why some HY 35's will only make 30 lbs of boost with a turnbuckle and others will make 45lbs?

35 or 40?

It really depends on how much more you are planning to do. I have a 01 with the same GOODIES on it and put 35 with 14cmwastegated and Al at piers said that should be fine. I don't plan to add any more power because I'm at 380.

35 or 40 neither one will make an egt diffrerence, that difference is going to be made in the exauhst housing, which are interchangable, the down side to the 40 is slower spool, cost, ex brake difference . and a new exauhst down pipe , the 35 will drop in, and with the 14 housing, or a 16 you should be fine,

just an opinion

I didnt want a big turbo. Mostly I just drive around with the UFM off unless I wanna play with some Ferd. On injectors alone my PDR35 spools equally fast compared to my stock HY with an EZ. It does get warm with the 35/12 and the comp on 5x5 but I only run that way for a quarter mile at most and it cools off plenty fast. Plus I could always swap to a 14housing if needbe.

HX35 OR 40

I would step up to the hx40 and with the DDII you should offset the turbo lag. Like someone else said earlier call al at pdr and let them know what you have. I had an hx35 know the 40 and temps are lower!! Pdr told me that the 40 would lower egt's better than the hx35 with a bigger housing because the boost side pin wheel is larger and moving more are on the 40!!!!

I beg to differ. An HX40 w/16cm² housing, vs a HX35 w16cm² housing, the HX40 will provide lower EGT's. The bigger compressor wheel will move more air efficiently, and allow a easy of 40lbs of boost within its efficiency map, the HX35 will need to be wastegated around 35psi. As far as slower spool, have you ever been around a PDR HX40? They seem to spool up pretty quick. Cost is slightly higher, but it does include the new downpipe... the PDR HX35 price does not include an exhaust housing I believe.

He doesn't list if he has a 4" exhaust or not, nor an exhaust brake. But those are valid points.

Regardless I would still go with the PDR HX40 if I had to chose. The HX40 will help make more hp now, with room to grow.

Another vote for PDR HX40/16. Like Kat said, it comes with a 4" downpipe and allows for 4" exhaust housing. Look for future bombs. The spool up is great.

HX 40 ;(

Get an HX 55

The HX 40's tend to explode Oo. if you push more than 45 psi and then bark it :{

I want to clarify that PDR HX40 is NOT the same as a stock

HX40. PDR HX40 has proven to be very reliable. Also, Piers does not recommend you push more than 40 PSI of boost on his HX40.

I have the PDR HX35. I am also running with DD3's and the PE Comp. I haul a big Lance Camper around and usually set the Comp at 2/1 with no problems with EGT's. With the Comp on 5/5, it gets hot in a hurry (but it's a lot of fun!!!). So the HX35 works for me for most of my driving. So my question is, does anyone run the Comp at 5/5 all the time and still keep the EGT's under 1200 degrees?
