It sounds like you need to call Peter @ South Bend. He'll set you up right. BTW my clutch only lasted about 3 weeks before it started slipping with the comp.

Never pierced pump wire, and lost both LP and VP. Know a few fellas with same problem. I believe it's all a matter of luck.

I didn't even make it 2 miles down the road before it the truck died after piercing the wire. I did find out that I had a bad lift pump for some time before I hooked up the box which I am sure did not help the situation. 40K on the new vp-44 and going strong!!

I did! Lift pump pressure went from 15@ idle to below 10 in a matter of less than a minute. I was a couple of hundred miles from home. The truck did not miss a beat, but I'm sure I'm partly to blame for the VP failure.

You have a little gap in your choices...

You have a little gap between less than 10K and over 50K miles. My 00 had 56K miles no problem with neither lift pump nor VP-44.

My 02 just went over 35K miles and no problems.

Just curious: Of all the folks that killed their VP-44s, did you kill the lift pump first and did you have fuel pressure gauges?

it seems to me that alot of people that piece then find out the hard way, dont have fp gauges, and have the possiblilty that the LP is bad to begin with. . i also am nervous about doing this, id just rather not have to replace the VP, but, i guess if..... i could find a good one for a areasonable price id give it a shot.

I just got my comp today, curtesy of FedEx. I plan on piercing the wire but will wait till stock clutch won't hold anymore and after 100000, (94000 now).

I just put gauges and FASS system in a couple of weeks ago, and before gauges, checked FP 3 or 4 times and was always 14-15 idle and 8-9 WOT untill gauge install at EEP and it was reading 11 idle and I told them to put the FASS on. (I know 11 isn't bad but figured it was probably on its way out! ;) ) Hope I got a good VP 44.

How does a person know if they have a 53 block?

I think I have had my Comp on for about 30 - 40K miles, I originally used the Edge supplied scotch lock connector, then I soldered the darn thing :D I drive on 2x3 most of the time except when racing.

My truck is a 98. 5. I'm running a DD Ultimate Power Module and a custom 35 turbo and injestors. 70,000 miles on the stock injection pump and lift pump. No problems yet :)

I'm an all or nothing kind of guy

The first thing I did was pierce the wire and I drive it like I stole it! as long as you set it up correctly you "MAY" not have a problem. :D

To Pierce Wire = To Buy Vp44

Just rolled over 175k. Torque converter has been sliping for about a week. I was completely stock until two days ago. I had plans to get a new ATS trans put in friday so i thought it was time to finish off the darn thing. Put in the edge comp that i had bought from a cowboy that sold his pickup. Hooked the pump wire up killed the VP44 in about an 1/8 mile of 5x5 wot.

:rolleyes: :eek: :{

GUESS I SHOULD HAVE READ UP ON THE KILLER PUMP WIRE FIRST
