From the 2016 users guide. It does use the word “may”.
Well.....you did originally say “owner’s manual” in post #1.

Not sure I’ve ever looked at the user’s guide. All I know is that the owner’s manual and diesel supplement basically lay out the service intervals and fluid requirements.

Is this the same cancelling procedure for a 2017 and 2018 Ram? And 2019?

Rob S. I see no one has responded to your question with a new truck? I do not know if this will work on the new trucks or not, since my truck is an 2008. But it can't hurt to try this procedure as it will not damage anything if it does not work and if it does work than that is good to.

From another thread!

Again.. all the instructions I’ve seen involve using the brake pedal 3 times, not 2.

I said:
OK, just reset mine. Two pushes holding the second = no joy. Two pushes not holding the second = no joy.

Three pushes NOT hold the third = Reset! BTW message came on at 67443 miles while driving! Snoking

Ill start will the key on engine off, then 2 on the brake and from what ive read so far the key is pressing the throttle pedal slowly down and up 2 times within 10 seconds. then key off. ;)

Then, you will do three presses to reset it, "if" you want it reset!

So the manual says "may require". What would dictate the "may"? Looking through the service records via Carfax on my truck, it shows that the CCV filter was changed around 70k but doesnt say anything about EGR service. I would assume that there is away to test the EGR valve. I guess it was also be determined on driving conditions.

There's no way to tell aside from tearing into the system. An engine that spends a lot of time idling or short tripping and doesn't have the chance to warm up will by nature use more EGR and be more likely to be dirty vs an engine that sees higher engine loads or even high way driving.

Cummins doesn't distinguish between either scenario so it's not something to lose sleep over unless you want to be proactive. It's a nasty dirty system and could only benefit from a cleaning.

Thanks, I figured as much. It wouldnt hurt. This will be a good project after camping is done for the year.

I would read the perform service-2012 by Russell5000, to see his issue when he did his service to the EGR system. His truck like mine truck should have the EGR system service were as the later trucks like yours does not really need it, per RAM.

On a side note the instructions I posted will work on a 2008 truck since I have used these instructions when servicing the EGR system. I said it may be different for the newer trucks, but this does work for the earlier trucks. The three pedal motion works for my fuel filter reset on my truck.

I have changed my CCV filter twice now in 136,000 miles. The only thing I can suggest is to were some Vinyl gloves that you can throw away with the old filter, this will help to keep your hand clean. The filter sits under the batwing (mine is MIA) and the long plastic cover that you fill the engine oil through (at least on my truck). You will need to un-screw this cover and remove a hose on the side of the cover. The filter sit's under this cover.

To turn off the perform service message (at least on my truck) follow these instruction for the CCV Filter.
here is how to reset the message
turn key to on do not start
press brake peddle 2 times
press gas peddle 2 times slowly within 10 seconds
turn off key

It may be different on the newer trucks, but I do not remember seeing anyone post a different message.

I did the CCV service on a 2017 2500 on Saturday and the reset procedure was the same with one exception as far as the throttle peddle speed:
I first tried going slowly with the throttle peddle, no reset, I then used a faster (one-one thousand, two-one thousand) tempo on the throttle presses and it reset on the first attempt.
