I like my luc clutch no complaints so far. When I put my second transmission in one night when I was rodding around it started to slip something fierce. Smoke was boiling out I thought I was going to have to replace it so I ordered a south bend clutch. From that point on it hasn't missed a beat. Never slipped once even pulling a trailer.

On another thought does anyone know what they are rated at.

Just another question who is the top dog of the first gens? Who has the highest hp/trq. Is anyone over 400hp. I think I'm close just on #2. I can never get my propane to work right. I haven't got my pickup on the dyno in quite some time so maybe after the first of the year I can get it up on the rollers. Some one needs to have another dyno day.

Hey Stomp, whats up dude?Hows work?:D Your luk clutch is rated for 700lbs torque. Mine held up for a long time, until i added on a few upgrades. Cant wait for the next dyno day to see how are rides do. Have fun at work:D :D :D :D

If I'm mistaken here, no insult meant... . but... .

There are, to the best of my knowledge a number of guys who are getting up there in HP...

Nascar Mark and I are at 370 RWHP... . from there the next two fella's are Old Smokey (Mike) at I think 444 or so and then is KTA Cummins (Brian Block) who has hit 480'ish.

I don't know what configuration his fueling system is but I *think* he is running the VE pump, others say there's more to it. As far as I'm concerned I'll take his word for it until someone proves otherwise.

We have a few more tricks coming and I feel confident that the coming year will see someone, or two/three reach the 500 RWHP mark.

At this point though it is necessary to use ported components, seriously modified hybrid turbo/or twins, cam and other goodies...

but it can be done.....

In the case of mark and myself we've reached the levels we're at now in pretty much similar fashion. I have done one or two things different than mark though.

At present I can hit as high as 1800*F so I desperately need more air to burn the fuel.

It promises to be an interesting year for 1st Gens...

edit: there are a number of us all in the same range of HP... Bob Beauchaine, Dave Miller, Philip, and a number of other guys too... sorry if I overlooked you fella's and suggested that there were *only* 4 of us "up there"... . not my intentions guys...

just wondering why you'd put another gutrag in there? I can almost maybe understand putting one in there the first time, but after the 2nd one breaks, why not shop around for an NV4500?

Well I guess that I have some serious work to do before I can get to the top of the list.

Question: Why is it that we can't leave them stock.

Stomp

Ok Eric, come on... spill the beans... what sort of numbers and who... :D:D Every guy that moves the bar higher encourages all of us to try harder... .

I notice also that you are running about 50psi boost... have you ever had a chance to dyno your rig??

Fill us in here bud...

LuK Pro Gold

I wasnt none too impressed with the LuK Pro Gold I put in my 92 W250- pump tweaks, 12 cm housing, and a straight exhaust. I was doig good to hit 28 psi. It didnt seem to hold any better than the Sachs stock clutch I had taken out; they both got warm while pulling a measley 10K# up a hill at 70 in 5th. I still have the Sachs- waiting for the $$$$ to get it rebuilt by a shop in the Springs (yeah, i know, i have to get back OUT THERE first). My stocker in the 91 slips a hair now and then if I hit it just right, but not often enough to be a concern just yet.

Bob

I still have not dinoed (waste of time and money).

I did get in on the group purchase of the water-methonal system from snow performanceOo.

It got here two days before christmas:D

talk to you guys latter , I have some tuning to do

Oh yea more on the topic

you can turn screws, rotate diaframs, replace springs, advance timeing, and generaly increase fueling on the VE

all of these things have been dicussed in great detail thanks to the pastor and others. Eventually you will come to a cieling in performance.

Many of us can attest to this and thats why my next statment is rellevent to this forum.

If you really want to tune the VE you have to use a dremmel tool!

Happy bombing Eric

thank you piers!

VE + Dremmel????

Is this REALLY a good idea, guys? WHat do you have up your sleeves this time? Let me know when you reach 500. I'm still lacking in air quality (temp- intercooler), so it will be a while before I even break 300, unless I do a LOTTA porting.

Daniel

Daniel,

Maybe not. Brian, as I understand it is running an early 5. 9. Does anyone know if he has added an aftermarket intercooler? If not, I'm sure his EGT's are sky high! That yellow truck with a work bed, of all things makes for the perfect sleeper. Last I heard about him, he had jsut broken the 100mph barrier in the 1/4 mile.

:--)

Since you have never dynoed you truck, I guess this statement is based on your very accurate and calibrated SOTP (Seat Of The Pants) dyno? Pretty bold statement.

And no, I do not consider my rig anywhere near in the league of some of the trucks guys here are running so don't go telling me your truck will beat my truck ... I'll tell ya your's would probably beat mine. :p

Hey hey now... . back to your chairs girls..... ;):D:D:D

Brian Block has done some fine numbers in his ole girl... . you gotta luv the surprises that just seem to keep coming from the 1st gen trucks... . and yes, I am positive that we will see 500 RWHP sometime during the 04' year.

The top two to watch will be Mike (Old Smokey) and KTA Cummins (Brian Block)

At the level these guys are running it does require some mentionable mods to air in/out, fuel etc... . still, not too shabby from an old VE pump... . it's made a believer outta me.

To keep some things in perspective I'd like to mention ... .

On TDR in this forum. . we were and have been kicking around ideas on how to do this and that... . VE ideas, turbo, housings, governor springs and so much more...

At the same time, Mike and Brian were working behind the scenes to do their thing as well. Once or twice we had some of those "hints" pop up in here and elsewere... some noticed them others didn't... at least, until later anyway.

Nascar Mark was pushing his ole gal to the edge every time there was a dyno event. Some time before that started to happen he and I shared a couple brief thoughts that did eventuall lead to a trick or two... he did offer some tips to me as well that helped out as I worked my way upward. .

Mike contributed with some of his "thoughts" on performance during the last year as well.

He came up to PDR's dyno mania for two reasons. ... to see what his truck would do AND to support the 1st gen guys/PDR at the same time.

I had an opportunity to chat all too briefly with him following that dyno event... . class act that young man... we can all learn from his attitude...

So, what's the point you ask..... well, each of us will get/use/try things that suit our own needs and goals. I've seen some fella's you'd never think would hunt some HP, step up and go for it... right ALK, PACCOOL... and you all know who you are... :D:D

I guess I'm saying that this group has been VERY forthcoming with help, ideas, tips, tricks and more. . and, in a very open manner. Yes, there are one or two things held back. . the kind of things that produce that last 20-30-40HP to top a personal best... but, sooner or later it's made known... .

Piers has, for example, teased me with a thing or two, but didn't tell me outright... made me go home and think it thru...

We'd have a couple more chats and finally the light (dim as it is) would come on... and there ya go... . :D

I know this is long but bear with me... .

Last but NOT least... we've had sledpuller, jim fullmer(sp?) and a number of others from the 2nd gen group in here helping with ideas too... do NOT overlook a couple recent "thoughts or ideas" guys... go back and read a bit.

We lost a real good guy a couple years ago, which some of the newer fella's won't know of... "Old School" .

I can't tell you how many emails and PM's we shared during my first year or so, and, finally we lost another well respected brother. . Nowel Thomas (HVAC).

So, thank you to all the guys who've contributed information, ideas, tips, tricks, caught us/me in errors or misspeak, and made this group what it is... .

... HAPPY NEW YEAR... BOMB ON DUDE'S... .

Pastor B0B...

". . and the patron saint of acceleration moved her hand across the pump and saw it was good; and as she did so, fuel came forthe...

and she called out to the super eclipse cloud of death... smoke on !!! :D:D

I was just wondering? In this quest for power why hasnt some people just converted over to a P - Pump. I also heard a rumor that there has allready been a first gen that may have eclipsed the 500 h. p. mark but i can not validate that rumor. (Some people just dont go and tell all). Based on who built the pump it is very possible.

i personally don't think a p pumped first gen is a real first gen. I've been offered the idea from Joe D. when i was down in LV and to tell you the truth it was not expensive when i thought about it but i want to see what my VE can do and i want to keep it original right now. I would like to see what a P- pumped first gen could do though. I would like to hear who the person was that went over 500 HP though.
