"So whats the magic number? How many times does someone have to be given a "time out" before they get the boot? Is it a different number for everyone? "

I think a number of options could have been found. It seems that most people are creative and intelligent enough to find an alternative to the extreme punishment of expulsion. This could be done without much thought or effort. Having the power to ban someone does not mean you do so at the first opportune moment.

I would have suspended him/her 10 days, then 20, then 30, the 40, then 50, then 60 etc. see the pattern. If he continues to violate the rules then he will be constantly on suspension, and maybe the error of his/her ways will be recognized by him/her and the offensive act will stop.

I think a more severe approach would be to have the offender submit his post to the moderator for approval before it can be posted. These may be more painstaking for the moderator, but this would be better for the site, and a better way to correct a problem child, rather than taking the easy way out and deleting him all together.

SSL told all of us that a certain oil dealer is his buddy. The thread could have simply been deleted however SSL made a choice to punish a member, (not his favorite), rather than being an UNBIAS MODERATOR and doing the correct thing. His wordy post said NOTHING and his buddy is currently harrassing me via e-mail. No names here, only valid points. I had nothing to do with the thread being refferenced here, yet one of the oil distributors is e-mailing me! I would post it but do not wish to set a big fire!

I think Don is a very smart guy and I think he knew what would happen when he did the deed. I would love to have Don M back on our site. He knows what he is talking about and his information is very helpful. He also has a lot of passion for the CTD and our Dodge trucks.

You can bet that Gene had to be specifically warned offline to stay off of Don's thread! Don brought us facts whereas Gene brought us BS. The TDR claims that "we" don't know what goes on in the background. However, they don't keep track of certain salesmen that email us offline.

The TDR has been a wonderful club. Unfortunately, it is now becoming an issue of who you know! If Steve keeps inviting us to leave... ... we will!

The folks who say Don M had all the facts unfortunately are about as clueless as he was. How about the oil thread that had a million posts and half of them were him repeating the same stuff he already posted? How about the explanations of how Amsoil "ate" his 176,000 mile seals in his truck after installing it? How about his pump talks that were way off base? How about Don of the Ford board now rambling about how to build a cam for a Powerstroke? How about Don rambling on the Ford board about how the fuel dynamics of an engine he never had apart works?

The guy just likes to babble. Which is no problem, except when you do it in a way that makes more work for the moderators. I would almost bet that Steve has a list of members that he checks their posts every day to make sure they aren't out of line. I'm betting Don M was on the list. You don't get on the list for no reason. Repeated moderation is the only way.

This whole thing kinda reminds me of the guy I had to fire today. To start with he's lazy and next to worthless. He thinks the exact opposite though. He is frequently late. Besides being a general pain in my ass because I have to watch him every minute of the day taking time away from what I need to do, he is always stirring the other guys up about something. By the end of the day, everyone is ****** off. He decides today to just leave in the middle of the morning and not tell the foreman on the job. Just left. A flagrant violation of the rules and really boning us for the rest of the day. It was the reason I was looking for to get rid of this pain in the ass. He can't believe I fired him. For just leaving. I'm an ******* now. I'm not fair. I didn't put myself in his shoes. A couple of his friends think I'm an ass for getting rid of him for doing one thing wrong.

I applaud Steve for doing the same thing.

rraush, doesn't it really **** you off that people don't follow the written directions you posted in the beginning of the thread and then reposted just above?

Guys quit acting like little kids that need attention:rolleyes:  It's that constant whinning that is driving members away, not the inforcing of the rules, to wich we all agreeded to by joining, by the moderators. If you want to go, go. If you want stay, stay, contribute to this site by making it better.

Asking us (the membership) to beg you to stay, is juvenile.

Off the soap box.

well i can tell you this thread is about to come to its end.

well spoken, Johnboy.

Mike and Scott read johnboys post. he at least has an idea of what does go on behind the scenes. none of this, i scratch your back you scratch mine, protect our favorite people and vendors crap. that just is not the case. <-- that's a period.

it's this simple guys, read and understand the rules. three strikes your out. is that too hard to comprehend? Don repeatedly stoked the fire to start wars and try to baffle us with his brilliance. look at the threads he started for MM updates. he tried and succeeded in starting a transmission war. read his posts in the pump thread in the 12valve section. he was constantly posting doragatory remarks at the tail end of posts to certain people.

he made trouble, he was warned, he made more trouble, he was warned and suspended, he made even more trouble. three strikes he's out!! it's that simple.

lay off of Steve. he does a great job on here, and does not deserve the treatment you are giving him.

I miss Don and his information he shared. it sounds like he has quite an arsenal of books. we could use those around here from time to time :D

he did this to himself, that is the tradgedy here.

Ongoing Issue - Closed

Decision Reviewed:

1. I read all of the related posts and the e-mail I have received.

2. I reviewed all of the facts relative to this decision.

3. I re-reviewed our website guidelines.

Decision: The guidelines are clear and fair. The moderators gave the offender more latitude than you are aware of, and they enforced the strike 3 rule only after being pushed to make that decision by the user's actions.

The decision of the judges is final (snicker).

To focus us on items pertinent to our trucks, Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesels, I am locking (not deleting) this thread and all other related threads.

Let's get back to having fun on the site.
