I received my PHAT SHAFT 66 today from Industrial Injection.

I can't wait to get it on this week sometime and try it out.

Looks like a nice piece of work already! Oo. Oo. :D

This will be great! - after the B1-04, I am very curious to see how you like that turbo

Next we need a head to head of the Sledpuller and the Phat Shaft

Funny you should ask...

I just completed the installation and a trip around the block.

So far this dude sounds mean. I have been going easy on it so far.

Cruising EGT's are up about 75* if I leave the TST off, with the TST on level 1 they are only up about 50*

I am going to go for a 50 mile drive to get it a little more broke in.

I'll report again.

Damn, I can't wait to hear!! My phat shaft is ordered and on the way with a tst. If it gets here this week I may get a chance to drive it before I go on vacation on the 26th(2wks in Montana). Never thought one of my trips to Montana could be bittersweet. :-laf But a two week wait to break-in and play with that turbo and tst might be hell on earth!!! Damn I wish all my problems were this sweet!!

Well...

I went for about a 100 mile drive.

I was easy on the charger by just driving/cruising about 7-8psi @ 75mph for the first 50 miles.

On the way back I was running through different boost pressures trying to get everything ready to go for tomorrows sled pull.

The first time I got it up to 30psi with just the Bullydog on 90hp setting and TST on 1 the truck pulled with ease, alot more air moving!!

I also did a run on 40psi, then 43psi with the TST on level 2.

I hit 90mph 40lbs boost with only 1000*egt!!

So far I am very impressed, this turbo ROCKS!! :D

**When installing make sure to install the drain tube before you put the turbo on the truck. One of the bolts for the drain is next to impossible to get at after the charger is on. The other one isnt that easy either.

I havent poured the coals to it yet.

It definitely cools better! But from the size of the wheels its should.

The actually sound of the turbo is deeper and louder. Sounds like a jet-plane spooling up (just like the B1, but better!).

Spoolup is slower but as expected, but it is in no way laggy.

Cruising temps are about the same on the interstate 70-80mph.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Justin, From what you know now, would you recomend this turbo for someone running say an aggressive duration box and a pressure box? I am stuck on what I want to run. I have a killer 64 on order but I dont know if it will be enough, I want 500 HP but I only would run about 400 daily. I dont want a laggy turbo but I also will have some mild EDM's and probably a cam in the future so I want a turbo that is good now and will be good later.

Also did you have any problems installing the turbo?

As far as daily driver with 400hp this should be a good unit.

I dont run around every day with the boxes turned up.

So far this thing spools very quickly for its size.

Problems installing:

Most of it went pretty well. I re-used some home made studs I used with the B-1. I also removed the ATS manifold to ease turbo removal.

Drain tube bolt as mentioned above is hard to get at. These need to installed and torqued before hand.

I re-clocked the compressor housing upward by about . 5". I felt like it was too close to the shock tower. I had done the same thing with the B1's compressor.

I spent about 7 hours all together. I am slow but I did it all myself.

Tips:

Place a small box near the frame rail when installing turbo. You can use this to rest turbo on when setting it into the truck.

Duct tape up compressor outlet and inlet so you don't drop a nut or bolt or damage the wheel during install. (remove of course when you done)

This turbo is a pretty straightforward bolt-on as the B104 was.

Industrial injection provides gaskets and studs to ease installation, along with a electronic wastegate fooler for the 04. 5-05 trucks.

That was my exact thought after I got my Sledpuller66 on...

Slower, but not laggy - I still question how close these two are to each other

Seems by your review so far, they are pretty close

Would you recommend injectors and a fueling box with this turbo for an '03 with a BHAF & 5" exhaust, or could I live with the turbo alone for a while? I guess what i'm asking is, what should the first mod. be?

First mod I would get a TST box then a FASS. Clutch or transmission upgrade then a Turbo.

I'm planning on installing a SBC FE, FASS, TST, and a turbo all at once at the end of summer.

My question:

How is driveability with a big turbo when the TST is on low settings? I run my Xzillaraider on the 60 setting most of the time, only turning it up for the occasional blast away from a stop light. I'm not too interested in losing driveability with lower settings.

If the phat shaft is not too laggy, then I'll go with that for sure.

I just ordered mine! Super PS66. Be here thursday. The diffrence between the super and regular PS66 are the turbine wheel and housing size, the super is bigger to support more HP and better cooling, the PS66 is for slightly better spoolup. Also I got a pretty smokin deal on it as well!

JCleary,

Well if you want to do it right the first time I would get the Phat Shaft 66.

It lets you have room to expand or grow into if you know what I mean.

Sure the B104 spooled up great, but it was also choking up top.
