JCleary,

Well if you want to do it right the first time I would get the Phat Shaft 66.

It lets you have room to expand or grow into if you know what I mean.

Sure the B104 spooled up great, but it was also choking up top.

Yep, I think you're right. I'm sure injectors won't be far behind, maybe an EZ or Ramifier, etc. Might as well put up with a little lag to get more on top later without spending a fortune.

I'm guessing the TST Twins flash will help with spool-up?

With my 66mm turbo, even with just an EZ on, the spoolup was like a a stock truck...

I would have no fear just running a 80 hp box with this turbo with plans of more fuel later

Ohh yeah, and yes, the twins program would help

I received my PHAT SHAFT 66 today from Industrial Injection.

I can't wait to get it on this week sometime and try it out.

Looks like a nice piece of work already! Oo. Oo. :D

which one did you get, looks like 3 models to pick from.

Justin got the Super PS66 as well as myself.

The super PS66 is the biggest one they make. The PS66 has a tighter turbine housing for faster spoolup, and the PS62 has a smaller compressor than the 66's.

How would this turbo do for pulling an 12,000lbs trailer? would it be a little to exstrem for it?

You are probably going to want one of their smaller turbos for towing heavy. You don't want a slow spooling turbo when towing otherwise your EGT's get out of control before the turbo has a chance to spool up.

NOt only that, but the larger compressor wheels are going to be operating much closer to their surge lines that a smaller wheel.

Surging while towing is annoying and harmful to the turbo.

Has anyone reached a consensus on the best turbo option yet? It seems nobody can decide what's best - twins, a big single, waiting for a vgt/bb turbo to ever appear, etc. Is this phatshaft going to be better than a set of piers twins or other twins in regards to spool up time, cooling, and performance?

Well if you want twins get twins.

I don't want twins becaue it would knock me out of every local sled pull aroun here.

This is a tough single so far for me and can move alot of air in a hurry! :D

I have no preference toward twins or a single, and also have no constraints in regards to any pulling or competition, which I don't do. I am the first to admit I don't know much about turbos, I haven't spent any time learning or researching them at all which is why I was asking. It seems like you guys are happy with this one so far, which just adds another option to the confusing mix. I'm just interested in the best cooling performance, spool up, and durability/reliability, and was just curious.

I pulled last night @ 49lbs all the way down the track.

I got 3rd place. I way overpowered the track, never hooked up. The truck that won probably had 75 less hp but hooked up good right off the bat. I sat and spun all 4 out of the hole.

I backed the screw out of the little brass elbow about half way or so.

You will need to use some teflon tape to keep it from falling out though.

I used a little piece of electrical tape to keep it from backing out.

This turbo is making alot of power!! :D

I usuall get the screw where I want it and just put a dab of locktite on it and it stays put, but it doesnt work that great if you mess with it all the time but it will work.

Brett told me that it likes 43-45 max (still flows good/cold there), what did they tell you?

What about lag, have you romped on it from a dead stop yet??? Would ya mind hookin on a trailer with about 16000 lbs. on it and let me know if it's too big to tow with, yeah I know I'm crazy but thought I'd check. I do appreciate any feedback you can give on this turbo, I'm very interested in this one.

If your an auto you might want to look into a unit with a tighter housing for towing purposes.

If your going for absolute power definitely get the SUPER version!!

1700!... ..... that's a good start!

Seriously this is turning into a good R&D thread with some good hard data... ..... wish you had an air temp gauge with a recall.
