After getting a 2016 4x4 2500 ram the bed is higher even when stock than my previous one. Not to mention that getting older and stiffer the ole bod doesn't work as well. I had seen one in a parts catalog years ago. I went to Amazon I found a Traxion tailgate ladder 5-100 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VDX5D2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I can't say enough about the prime deal, One member of a family belongs and up to ten other can be added to it. Son has it and he added me and his mother it has worked out well for us.

ladder in folded strapped in on gate.

Two piece straps are screwed in to the panel as is the mounting plate I did use better self tappers rather than the cheap ones that came with it.

You can use any number of the pre-drilled holes in the plate I mounted it on the passenger side rather than drivers side. mostly because I have a tail gate assist arm mounted on that side. I did make another change in I used hitch pins and clips to hold the arms and ladder to the arms. Since I will be modifying one of those bed unloaders to fit the wider tail gate and slits in the bed rug for the straps.

Here t is in the working position with the modification to clear the cable.

I used a die grinder with a carbide burr to cut the hole but drilling a couple of holes and the filing it out.

Here it is the way the instruction say it should be out straight up and down. the ladder is adjustable to match assorted heights

Nice install!
I picked up the bestop trekstep for the same reasons... Getting old sucks!
i haven't received my new truck yet, but I know the bed will be a bit higher than my 99 2wd!
came close to going with the same setup you chose. I'd like to hear how it's working for you after you use it a while.
You're right about Prime. I think it's the next best thing to a Cummins! Lol

Well I can tell you so far I have used it 3/4 times, I grab the tie down point area of the side when getting in or out and it has worked well. Having been told by my doctor that I should be careful when getting up and climbing due to older means sudden moves can cause one to get dizzy and loose balance I thought that with the height it would be a good idea to start fresh with one. I am hqappy with it and intend to continue to use it.

I like the step you chose. I may look into getting the bed step you have. I don't want anything mounted to the tailgate due to my gooseneck hookups (it has lived a hard life, but I have not yet shut it and then pulled forward after unhooking).

I mounted the BedStep http://www.amp-research.com/products/truckaccessories/bedstep/ on the back left corner of the truck and since I have a canopy I put a stainless grab handle on the canopy side. Left foot goes on the step. Left hand on the grab hand and up you go. Just don't bang your right knee cap on the corner of the tailgate. It hurts. I like it better than the step that was built into the after market bumper I had on my 03. It was too high off the ground.

That step looks nice, for me I just carry a 2 step step stool in the back, also works well for fueling the auxiliary tank since I am too short to reach over the bedside.

I have a 2 step stool to reach the 5th wheel hitch. Also bought this step. Will have to do some adjustment and washers under the plate so that it will tighten down without distorting the tailgate. Will;l let you know and post pictures if I can.

Thank You for this idea for a ladder. I looked it up on Amazon and the price is very good being less than $40. I am older and have a bad back and getting into the back of the truck is a chore. I am going
to order one of these and give it a try. Thanks!

I can tell you that it is great, I can put anything I can lift on the gate and then get into the bed and move it were I want. Just did these door stops at about 75 pounds each

For the barn doors on the back of the sons BBQ trailer to hold them open

Same thing with the large bales of potting mix/seedling cover that I picked up this week. I still would be waiting for the help they called to load it:rolleyes: I can say now that I have had it since May I wouldn't want to be with out it. Age catches up with everybody and I know some days are better than others.
