After getting a 2016 4x4 2500 ram the bed is higher even when stock than my previous one. Not to mention that getting older and stiffer the ole bod doesn't work as well. I had seen one in a parts catalog years ago. I went to Amazon I found a Traxion tailgate ladder 5-100 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VDX5D2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I can't say enough about the prime deal, One member of a family belongs and up to ten other can be added to it. Son has it and he added me and his mother it has worked out well for us.

ladder in folded strapped in on gate.

Two piece straps are screwed in to the panel as is the mounting plate I did use better self tappers rather than the cheap ones that came with it.

You can use any number of the pre-drilled holes in the plate I mounted it on the passenger side rather than drivers side. mostly because I have a tail gate assist arm mounted on that side. I did make another change in I used hitch pins and clips to hold the arms and ladder to the arms. Since I will be modifying one of those bed unloaders to fit the wider tail gate and slits in the bed rug for the straps.

Here t is in the working position with the modification to clear the cable.

I used a die grinder with a carbide burr to cut the hole but drilling a couple of holes and the filing it out.

Here it is the way the instruction say it should be out straight up and down. the ladder is adjustable to match assorted heights
