Ford 6.0 info

Wingate,

I will be interested to read your first hand reports of your experiences over the next year or two with the "wonderful" new Furd company truck.

If Furd gets it right after years of lousy old Navistar bus motors I will commend them here but I still won't be interested in owning one.

Personally I think anyone who buys a Ford PowerJoke is just asking for trouble! They have not been able to get it right since they dropped the 7. 3. They besides it is major ugly!

CELS CELS CELS..... did I mention the CELS????. . i JUST HOOK UP MY LITTLE CODE READER AND CLEAR THEM ANYMORE... Keep getting three P codes on the engine and one on the transmission, Ive got them written down in my log book, going to talk to the dealership about them when I get my next service.

Low on power, to be honest, my 03 Chevy 4500 service truck had the same rear end gearing, one less transmission gear, same wheel/tire height, and this truck has less weight on it, but to be honest, my old LB7 Duramax would eat this thing alive. .

Its DEFINITELY a Ford design, it makes tons of noise like its fixing to rip the earth out of orbit, but its really just a fart in the wind cause nothin' happens.

On the up side, it hasnt broken down yet, and it drives/rides nice. The service bed is light years better than the service bed on my old truck. .

Haha. They do make an aweful lot of noise and not back it up much, huh?:-laf I remember the 6. 4s at work making weird noises and lots of noise... I'd sit there and wish I was in my Dodge.

Ya know, i really dont expect this thing to perform like my pick-up, I KNOW you cant compare the two. With that being said, I would expect it to perform atleast equal to the service truck that I got out of! I am in no way a Chevy or Duramax fan, but this 2011 Ford does NOT respond anywhere NEAR as well as the 03 Chevy I got out of.

One would think that with the advantage of 7+ years of refinement, the Ford would offer something better than the D-Max, right now, the only advantage is that the d-max had to have to injectors replaced at 7500 miles (typical LB7 engine)

Power, driveability, fuel economy... No, No, and NO...

I feel like I am pretty much comparing apples to apples due to the fact that both trucks run the same tires and wheels (so final drive gearing should be the same) both have 4:88 gearing, the Ford has a 6 sp. auto vs. the old Ally 5 speed auto, I think my d-max was 285-290 hp, the new 6. 7 is 300 hp.

The tools are the same, the bed is lighter than the serice bed on the old truck, although this should balance in the end due to hydraulics on this truck.

This truck as delivered to me weighed in at 15600 lbs. The C4500s were over weight when empty at 16500. . Less tools (due to les space) same driver... . the Ford is just losing!!!

No doubt, in every other way, handling, ride comfort, options, etc... the Ford wins, but this engine trans. package leaves alot to be desired!!!.

Drove the 2011 in Alberta a few weeks ago and wasn't impressed. To change a fan belt would probably be $500 just to get to the belt! It was a pre-production model and they were updating the programming regularly BUT just NO GO when I tried flooring it! Not Impressed... Period... But there will never be another Ford in my yard!

I just studied that link. The only SD engines offered are the Boss and the 6. 7 diesel. No mention of the V-10. According to Wikipedia, it's still available on the 450 and 550, and they even list the 650 and 750, but I would have to question that. It is no longer used in the pickup chassis.

Go to "All Vehicles", then to "Super Duty", then to "Features". Once in "Features" look on the left under "Power";)

Available on all models over 8500lb GVWR, (Noted at the bottom).

It shows some pictures and has the power ratings. Impressive!!!!!Oo.

It says, "Offered on the Super Duty® F-450 and F-550 Chassis Cabs, the 6. 8L V10 is the only large-displacement gas engine of its kind available in the Class IV/V segment".

No mention of being in 250/350 trucks.

*Class is full-size pickups over 8,500 lbs. GVWR.

Which is F-250 and up.

Only "Gas" engine offered in the class IV/V segment. Meaning your only other option is a Diesel in a F-450/550 only.

Thats right from the site under 6. 8 V-10.

That's how I read it, too. Available in the 450-550 but not in the 250-350.

It wouldnt matter... we would not use a gasser due to it not being able to idled all day in the heat running PTO driven hydraulics. . If we did, the engine would be junk in 60K miles. . Also, the gassers aren't CSA compliant engines... that could be a factor for being allowed to idle on some locations.

All Right... ... .

All Right... ... .

I guess it's only on my PC were it reads this... .

Last time I Checked the F-250's were over 8500 GVWR. :p
