Just thought I would post a picture. These things began showing up about a month and a half ago. I found four total but three can be seen in the picture. Guess I'll be calling Geno's or other for a dash cover. Sure is funny that Ford or GM isn't experiencing this mess. If they are, I haven't heard as of yet. james

The plastic dash cap that Geno's sells works really well. It is attached over the original dash with silicone adhesive and can be painted to match your factory dash.

With everything else that has or can go wrong with these trucks, at least give us a dash panel that'll last awhile.

Have you used any armor-all or other similar product, these are known to make dashes crack on our trucks. Mine looks good as new, I only wipe with damp cloth.

Undoubtedly did it himself to stop the crack from spreading...

i also have about a 6 inch crack on the dash but its above the glovebox... and i have the same radar detector haha

I drilled the hose to keep them from propagating further. Still have one to go but will have to find a right-angle drill as the windshield is preventing me from getting to it; maybe I'll just let grow so it will come close to matching the other ones (haha).



I have used armor all but have since stopped using for about 3-4 years now.

Although there may be a number of reasons that resulted in this cracking issue (such as age, temperature, cleaners, etc) I now thinking of an incident that most likely initiated them. About 2 months ago, I noticed my Garmin w/ mount had obviously fallen from the windshield and was laying on the dash. Since we park in an open parking lot, I normally keep the windows cracked abit so it isn't 100F in the cab. It was shortly after this I observed these cracks. From here on out, guess I'll use the dash mount or remove the windshield mount after each use.

I would be VERY surprised to be told that such an item falling on the dash was the cause. I bought a 67 Chevelle in '90. The dash was cherry. I used Armor All on it and the next day the darn thing had 2 huge cracks in it. I would suspect the materials have changed from '67 to the past few years, but the chemicals still seam to be the culprit. I installed a Dashmat on my truck a few days after I bought the truck. I now use the mat to hide all of the wires for my guages and stuff. I don't have any cracks, but it is still very irritating to think that all of us with pride in our vehicles have to put up with products that do the opposite of what they are supposed to do. Whether it is chemical conflict issues or poor quality materials. We have been getting the short end for years.

That is disappointing... I was sure hopeing the cracking dash plastic was a thing on the past with 3rd generation. .

Curious Dave, I believe you are right. I think the failure mechanism was already there; I was just thinking the impact was the straw that broke the camel's back. For now on, guess it's just soap and water for the dash.

I too have a crack right above my glove box. Has anybody replaced that portion of the dash?

here is a picture of the crack in my dash. I don't use armorall or anything like it. I just use a rag to wipe it down.

Great, I thought I got rid of that problem when I sold the 2000... . Hopefully I'll luck out on this one! But I do use Armorall on occasion... .

The problem is everyone that has this problem is cleaning them!! I let the dust buildup and that provides extra protection again all UV rays. :-laf
