Are women really better at multi-tasking?

Greg, my plans or should I say my dreams, consist of me sitting on my porch on a brisk winter morning wrapped in a blanket, sipping my coffee overlooking my property consisting of views of snow covered mountains and forests. Exhaling deeply at the beauty and peacefulness of it all and then letting off half a belt from my railing mounted ma deuce at my 1k meter target range just so I can hear my wife screaming as she falls out of the bed.....

back to reality... I realize that the BAR is not the most controllable weapon, just many years ago when I bought my Garand I thought gee wouldn't it be nice to have a nice military rifle collection? Wife kids and home have side tracked me but I hope to get back on track in another decade or so. I have even quit smoking to make sure I'm around to enjoy myself... ;)

Kenny61, Thats sounds like a fantastic plan! Congratulations on kicking the smoking! You are well on your way to fulfilling that dream. MA-duce at 1000, come on, Bud! Thats short range, belt fed, plinkin':-laf;)! GregH

Quit the day after Christmas as a present to the whole family... I'm only going at a click to keep my dreams within my price range... .

Sounds like a pretty good dream to me!

I have two more WWII era rifles coming next week plus alot of surplus ammo and now find my self looking for a safe. I need to stay around the 400 pound mark due to being a full time rv'er. I have been looking at Browning, AMSEC, Winchester and a few others, any suggestions out there?

Congrats on the new purchase! I've always wanted one of those.

Here is the safe I recently bought. While it's not them most stout one you can buy, it met my needs. Safe and Vault Store was great too.

Kenny,

I'm afraid not. I assumed it was when I ordered it because I saw "American Made" or "made in USA" on other models. I found out when it was on it's way that these are made "overseas". I said "you mean China?" and he said "yes". I was bummed.

It is a nice safe though.

It looks like you have to go up to the BF series for American made AMSEC safes:

AMSEC Safes BF Series Gun Safes

I should have saved up a little longer and bought a BF!

The prices are quoted over the phone. It depends on what options you want. Needless to say, they are not cheap. Personally, I like the mechanical locks. I am saving for one. It will be a spell! GregH

I looked into Zanotti Armor and they start at $1200. I decided that being a full time rv'er my best choice is a modular safe. Yes I know they may not be as sturdy as a welded body but, I have limitations unfortunately. I do like the Browning TG15F and the Steelwater SW592818-BLK 20 gun safe and being over 400 pounds and having no one to help me get it in the door here I am leaning towards the modular type. Unless a fellow TDR member wants to earn a few beers and a steak dinner, lol.

What I have been looking at pretty hard is Dakota Safe Company

Is a safe, safe?

IMHO, There is no safe that is perfect. They just keep honest folks honest! Having expierence in the metal working trades. My feeling is that anyone with knowledge of cutting metal can skin a safe if they have access to the corners of the box. (I've done this in the process of D&D of a government facility) Without going into some detail, they are not flawless, no matter what you buy. I believe a modular unit is just as inaccessable as a welded unit. Both are accessable by a knowledgeable and determined thief. GregH PS, make sure you seal the seams on your modular after assembly.

I know someone who had the top cut off with a torch. Nothing is "safe" its just a mtter of how much do you want to delay them? The posted safes are only showing 1/8" steel. Used in conjunction with an alarm system it would delay the perp's until the cops, calvalry or neighbors arrived. In SHobbs case it would probably delay them until someone at the camprground called in a noise complaint. My weapons are secured to an extent that the perps would not have time to remove them and get away with it. I am considering the safe more for fire protection than theft protection. Personally I do not discuss what I own with people who know where I live un less I trust them explicitly even then you never know who they may talk to.

Kenny61, Fire and curious Kids are my concern. Your right about "your personal security plan". Need to know basis!

A safe made from steels such as "core-10" and other proprietary hardened alloys dont cut well with an oxy/acetylene torch! This moves the level of tech, up a couple of notches, for somebody that has the time and desire to break into your safe. Now you gotta have a portable plasma with compressed or bottled gas/air. Just some info to consider. Often you dont have a choice. If I could lift, I'd build my own safe. Modular design, 400 Brinnell hardness steel, lined with expanding foam tubes:-laf. Anybody that cut through that trap:eek: would be encapsulated till the Sherriff got done with his donuts and coffeeOo. :D. Can you say whoops:{? GregH

Been pretty lucky here, it is very quiet and just about the only vehicles that come through are set up here. My neighbors two doors down have been here longer than I have and I have known them for six years. We keep a watchful eye on things for each other and I even left a set of keys with them when I am out of town incase anything happens. The manager is always here and usualy walking her herd of dogs several times a day. The one thing I was thinking about with a modular safe is that no one would know what it is, might think I am doing a little remodling instead of installing a safe. Plus my window blinds stay down most of the time so no one ever has a chance to see in.

I don't know what you are planning on doing with the boxes but i'll give you a tip. Do not leave them lying in next to the garbage pails in front of your home on trash day. It's like advertising a sale of what you have in your home. I either burn them in the back yard or bring them to work *or if I'm feeling creative to somebodies house I don't like In hopes that the burglar will break into their house. Also if you have an unwanted felon next door nothing sets off his parole officer and the local cops more than a few long gun boxes and opened spam cans of ammo;) Invite your family for some barbecue as you watch the standoff:-laf

*Disclaimer- I have never done this and it is only in just... ... .
